Default 991.1 TT vs. 991.2 TTS

i have a 2007 997.1TT , looking to get into something newer with much more updated ammenities , etc. ive been looking at 2015's, they seem to fit the bill for interior needs and such and budget, just wondering what the cutoff year is for the .2 for these and what the major performance differences are. i typically mod anything i buy alot. seems like the 991.2 is faster with a tune than my E85 997 with bigger turbos is. any info would be great, TIA .

991.2s begin in MY 2017

As far as what's faster? Anything can be faster than anything else if you throw enough money at it.

From my experience the transmission made the biggest difference. That said, I wonder how a 991.1 TTS with a tune or 991.2 TTS with a tune would do against your car from 60-130. Overall, these cars with the PDK are just rockets. Less engaging for sure though. The 991 will never feel as raw as your 997 -- my $0.02.

991.1 Turbo '14-'16 MYs.
991.2 Turbo '17-'19 MYs.

If you are going to daily it and want the updated features, you can't go wrong with a '14 TT CPO with a good spec. Budget ~$110k. Otherwise you can spend a bit more ($10k-$15k) and pick up a TTS.

I don't think the price difference between the 991.1 and 991.2 TT/S is worth it (~$30k). Perhaps others may disagree. I have a 981 Spyder with the PCM that was used prior to the .2, and it's great! Could care less about Apple Car Play. Also doubt the performance differential is big between the two generations -- and probably matters even less if you plan on swapping turbos anyway.

Overall, I value spec and CPO warranty duration more than I value having a 991.1 vs a 991.2.

Can you describe more on the transmission difference?

I have a '14 and have the Cobb tune and PDK Update installed. Car is flawless, fast and the PDK shifting razor sharp. With the Cobb tune I'm not giving any HP/TQ away to the later years.

You will miss the manual but love the technology once you get used to it! Both models have their own benefits between mods and budget. The .2 does do almost everything better in true Porsche fashion. We have tested up to 670 wheel on E85 with the 991.2 TTS but they do have larger turbos. Runs like a 991.1 Stage 4 with 100 octane. Big difference in base cost too. Feel free to reach out anytime I would be glad to share more and help with anything I can.

The cost delta between a 991.1 and the few 991.2's you can find is quite significant. I predict you would be very happy with a .1 and budget money left over for tuning. (Fortunately for many on this forum, the 991.2 TTS is holding it's value much better than the .1 did)

I know the OP from the modded Diesel world / forum. He's no stranger to modding. lol

I think his 997 is a Tippy though.

He brother... I wanted a 991TTS also, but my budget was in the 997.2TTS area... I absolutely LOVE my 997.2TTS... I've resisted tuning for now , but so want to. A well tuned 997.2TTS PDK should run right with a 991.1TTS (Correct me if I'm wrong Sam). I think the 997.2 have larger turbos than the 991.1TTS????

Anyway, I love the 991TT & TTS looks & interiors, but for the money saved, you may want to shop 997.2TTS's.... There's a slightly modded Silver one on here for sale for $78,000 with 40K+ miles.....Check the classifieds.

From 991.1 to 991.2? Not a big difference there compared to jumping from 997 to 991, which to what I was referring. Sorry if my post wasn't more clear =) That said, there IS a difference in PDK from 991.1 to 991.2. Just not close to as drastic, but even my experience there isn't apples to oranges.

Probably a good option. I can't say the PDK in the 997 is slow without sounding completely stupid, but here it goes anyway. The PDK in the 991 is just more responsive to input on upshifts, downshifts, etc., compared to the 997. I didn't think so until I drove the 991. Perhaps there's an available software fix there which improves it?

991 Pros vs 997:
1. Improved PDK (which for me felt drastic in terms of responsiveness to user input)
2. Larger and more comfortable to daily.
3. Sunroof in glass is a really nice option.
4. Rear wheel steering is a nice improvement that helps reduce understeer, which to me, was noticeable in the 997 TTS I had... resolvable without it of course.
5. Most are CPO, vs 997.2 which CPO is either already expired or expiring soon. Though the car is pretty reliable.

But you are paying quite a bit for that, as you said. Also re: tuning, get on it!!! It wakes that thing up!!! Seriously night and day, especially if coupled with an x pipe with race cats. Mine sounded fantastic, for a turbo =)

Well I've got the Europipe with 100 cell cats and LOVE the sound.
I SO want a tune but have a few other financial things in the works, so I'm trying to be "smart".

It probably won't last though...lol

Around $1950 for the Cobb AP with off the shelf tunes inside. Another $600-700 for the PDK tune.

Then anywhere from $700-$1200 for Custom Tuning by some of the well known tuners to get MY / YOUR car specifically what it needs based on mods, fuel, elevation, etc. (stand to gain a bit more HP this way I'm sure, along with keeping it safe).

Cheap way out is just the Cobb AP with OTS tune inside for $2K.

yeah i just want a MUCH newer interior. you know me, i leave nothing alone. made 1100 the other day with a blown intermediate pipe on my 6.7 ford... was only down about 30 psi with a smokeshow coming from under the hood, prolly woulda made 1400 horse. i'm gonna search for a 991.2 , find one for a steal and keep my 997.1 for now. its a fun car and i really, really dont want a manual, ever. thanks for the input brother.
