Default Fab speed exhaust

I just put a valve tronic Fabspeed exhaust on my 2018 911 TTS. I never knew what drone was until I got the car back with the valves open . OMG at 2000-3000 RPM’s things vibrate and my ears feel like they are ringing. It is much better with the valves closed. The dealership told me it should settle down a bit with some usage. Is this usually the case? Is there something that can be done ?

Hey George,
We have not heard of this before. We have done extensive research into this system and have not had this issue with drone. I would love to talk about your system and what went wrong with the exhaust.
I will send you a pm as well.

Thank you,
Phil from Fabspeed

We are working with the customer and shop that installed the exhaust.

Phil was kind enough to PM me (I was planning on calling them once I had some more information from the forum). I spoke with him this morning. They are working to figure out a solution but according to Jason, at fabspeed, what I am calling drone is ‘resonance’ and pretty common after insertion of an aftermarket exhaust and it may be I just need to close the valves when I am on the highway or going between 2000-3000 rpm? I am not sure I would have bought the exhaust if this is the solution. I hope they come up with a better solution then this. I will keep the forum updated.

It was great speaking with you today I do want to let everyone know that you told us that "when the valves are closed there is zero drone with a nice improved tone over oem with valves open you experience drone only between 2-3000 rpm range". When you open our valves on you performance exhaust it completely bypasses our four chamber resonated x-pipe to become a straight piped system from the catalytic convertor back. We specifically designed this valved exhaust for your exact situation which is when you are cruising on the highway or driving through a neighborhood at low RPM's you can have our valves closed for a nice refined tone. As soon as you decide to start driving the car more aggressively and want to maximize the aggressiveness of the vehicle in mid to high rpms all you have to do is press a button and valves will instantaneously open and you will receive an incredible motorsport roar. We spoke with Porsche Grand Rapids. Adam originally suggested the non valve supersport x-pipe for your vehicle. Through your research you came back to them with the valvetronic because you specifically wanted the option to go from mild to wild which is exactly what are system is providing.

Phil,
if you want to continue to discuss this on the forum I will. I was/am disappointed in the exhaust. This is not how an aftermarket exhaust should be. When I had the service manager listen he felt the same way. The drone or what you call ‘resonance’ is way too much. My neighbor has an aftermarket exhaust and his is not like that. I didn’t buy the exhaust to keep the valves closed. Yes it sounds better then stock with the valves closed but certainly not what it should sound like for wanting a louder exhaust. And talking to your manager, Jason, was so frustrating, I just wanted to bang my head against the wall . He did not listen to what I was saying and just talked in circles. I am ready to just say forget it and have them take out the Fabspeed exhaust and call Sam!

Hopefully you get things worked out. Plenty of options available to you. I have the full Kline system including headers. Purchased through Sam and very happy with the system and the service I received by Sam.

Good luck!

You want the best solution...call Sam (Kline) or BBI!

Just spoke with Phil again. The fellow has called me 3 times trying to figure out a solution. Kudos to him for wanting me to be satisfied with the exhaust and not letting Jason call me back. I don’t know what’s worse talking to Jason or driving the car at 2000 rpm’s with your ears humming because of drone! But all joking aside I must say the exhaust resonance/drone has improved somewhat. I say it’s about 50% improved. Phil was working on a couple other things to correct it. If not for this the exhaust is great.

Hey George,

Glad things are improving. I look forward to our scheduled call tomorrow, I’m putting together some additional options. I know you’re not happy with your call with Jason but he cares very much about our company, products, and especially our customers. We are both taking a lot of personal responsibility to make sure you end up a satisfied Fabspeed customer.

Best,

Phil

Drone, aka resonance in polite circles, wont simply go away on it's own. I'd look at the install, sometimes they overtighten those(crappy) v bands which results in a loose connection which will drone like a ******. Years ago I suggested Joe get rid of those v bands and opt fore something stronger.

If you're in the Florida area, please feel free to stop by I'll go out for a ride with you and see if the system is acting as it should. I have seat time in that particular system and can give you a reference. My cell is 484 883 6197.

As I recall, if one is to turn the little dial on the dash up, the drone goes away...
