991.1 TTS reliability (warranty related question)
 

My apologies if it has been discussed, but I failed to find what I needed.I also posted on 991 thread, but I hope to get some real-life data over here.
I just purchased a 2014 TTS with 18K miles. I also purchased Porsche OEM "Platinum" extended warranty (same coverage as CPO) till 2024/100K miles. The cost is 11K. It is giving me 4 more years after CPO expires in Oct. 2020 (unlimited mileage on that one). So, assuming I keep the car after 2020 (as it sure seems to be a keeper) do you guys think it makes sense to keep extended one for 4 more years down the road or do cancel? I can cancel for free if do it within 90 (I think) days or otherwise anytime at which point it would be prorated based on time/mileage.
One caveat also is that Platinum warranty limit of 100K miles are odometer miles, not "after CPO miles" or even after current purchase miles. CPO is sure better deal with that respect, but extra 4 years is attractive.

I feel like although 11K is somewhat steep, it may worth it if these cars have some history of $$$ repairs. My 991.1 NA engine and manual tranny is very reliable, but sure way simpler and this is why with all the technologies on TTS I am a bit concerned.

I have found that credit unions often offer the same plans and for much less than the dealer plans.

Maybe at half that, but 11k is a lot, I know several people with 14' tts cars and they have been trouble free, and these people DRIVE their cars.

Porsche does not have an extended warranty. What you purchased is a 3rd party policy from another company. The only warranties Porsche provides are factory and CPO warranties. Of the 3rd party warranties, from my research, Fidelity is one of the better ones. I purchased a Fidelity platinum policy on my '14 SL550 for 6 years, premium was 6K with 250 deductible. My '14 TTS CPO warranty runs out in 2020 and if I keep the car I'll probably buy a Fidelity warranty at that time.

I agree with the other posters, 11K is very steep and I would shop around, do more research

Are you sure? Look at my warranty booklet. It looks genuine to me.

And I do drive my cars too. This TTS is now my DD car. Expect to go between 5-10K / year.

I inquired about Porsche extended warranty at my dealer and was told they offer it, but it's underwritten by a 3rd party, not Porsche, with the exception of factory and CPO warranties.

However, my information is only as good as the what the Dealer told me.

Also, I should add, the premiums they quote are negotiable, I was able to get 2K discount without much effort.

I recall being advised Porsche did offer a warranty for non-CPO cars. Give the dealer a buzz.

Will update with more info as I get it.
Today spoke with Finance manager at Carlsen Porsche. He told me they only offer a warranty through Fidelity. It is for 7 years max and is different from the one I have. He seemed to be puzzled on what exactly I got. Promised to check on it and come back.
I am also awaiting a call back from another Porsche dealer.

I think your chances of having a repair of $11k or more between 2020 and 2024 are pretty good, but I also think there are better options at lower costs. $11k does seem like a ripoff to me, but you might sleep better at night with it, which counts for a lot.

If you are trying to figure that out, I would absolutely go straight to the dealer's service department and ask them. They can tell you everything you need to know very quickly.
