Default 991.1 Turbo S vs tuned+decat McLaren 720S Half Mile Race

I got a chance to run a tuned+decat McLaren 720S last weekend at Shift S3ctor's Never Lift Half Mile Airstrip event 4-28-2018. The 720 picked up 5mph from the last event with the new tune almost hitting 177 mph. It was launching hard too. I didn't know if my car with a couple bolt on mods could hang with such a beast. Here you go:

The McLaren is making nearly 800 wheel horsepower with a tune/race gas/decat and weighs 3,100 pounds. My 991.1 only has 5 bolt ons and all the factory torque limiters are in place (I requested not to have them removed) and so power is limited to 667 wheel horsepower on GIAC's load mustang dyno. And my 991 is full weight not one ounce removed. So about 3,500 pounds. So on the HP/Weight factor, the 720S has me beat by a long shot.

But it's got to be driven. And on the launch up to 100mph there are not many street legal cars on the planet with street tires that can keep up with a properly modded/driven 911 Turbo.

I'm not entirely sure why the 720S didn't pull a little better at the top end. Maybe the 991 has better aero??? Regardless the initial lead was far too much for the 720S to overcome.

This was the one modded stock car I anticipated possibly being faster but you blew him off handily...again the hole shot of the mighty Turbo proved unsurmountable...congrats

Hey what's up brother. Yeah when the tuned ones were turning high 140's 1/4 mile and high 170's 1/2 mile traps, I figured I could be in trouble. Then I saw this particular car getting the hole-shot at the airstrip against other PDK turbos and figured oh well he's definitely got me!

In our race the 720S even gets the slight early hit (you can see in the vid) but I got a good enough launch to pull a couple of car lengths pretty quickly and hodl the lead to the end. As more development happens it's only a matter of time until those 720S will handily blow us away.

I didn't have many other close races. Got beat but ran very close to a 1,000 hp GTR...that's not a bad one to show you guys. Got smoked by a couple crazy HP GTRs one did 197 mph 1/2 mile and the other did 205). I might put some on-off races together shortly but I kind of lost interest in doing these long race video compilations. They take a lot of time and i don't think anyone watches them for the full 10-15 minutes. We all have short attention spans lol.

Ya I agree it takes plenty of time to edit and get ready for posting..it's just interesting and actually amazing to see what your car is bring down at these races...of course there will always be the crazy mods that get trailered to the event that will take you out but we all know these cars are pretty much for strip only use where we track ours on the weekend then drive them to the office on Monday,,this is the amazing thing in these machines

Yeah the 720 treed you but the ole TTS launch put a quick gap on'em. You can see him coming for you slightly in the end, hence the higher trap. Great to see you hold him off.

I just don't care for the McClaren's.. I liked the old MP412C but after that, they've been to crazy looking for my taste. I like simple.
