New 991.2 TTS versus used 458 Italia
I'm going to beat a dead horse to the ground by asking this question - but it really is geared to those who have had or have driven both vehicles.
I'm in the market for an exotic. And by exotic I mean a very nice sports car. I'm in the position of having either a 2018 TTS or 2019 TTS build slot.
I also found a used 2014 458 Italia. As you can guess my dilemma - I'm not sure which car to get.
My DD is a 2016 X5M. I love it. Not changing it. I have scoured the forums and the biggest complaint I have heard about the 458 is the amount of attention
that it gets. I'm not a "hey look at me" guy, but I do love the sound of the 458. It is magnitudes better than the muffled TTS in my opinion. I love the mid-mounted V8
behind the front seats. I love the looks of the 458. It has a full powertrain and bumper to bumper warranty for 7 years (well 3 years remaining now that can be extended).
But aside from looks and sound, the TTS does everything better. It has navigation/Apple Car Play, heated/cooled seats, vehicle lift option, and it's fast as snot.
Despite me being able to sort the pros and cons in my head, my dilemma remains. Which car do I take?
Quite confused. Thanks for your expertise to all in the forum.

I maybe the wrong person to ask, I have had a few of all the supercar, I would probably get the 458, and extend the warranty, but I have a 812 SF on order, and aready have a tts stage 4 By Design Porsche, you hit all the points of what the Ferrari is, daily driver it's the Porsche all day long, but that's not what you are using it for. Get sunglasses and a fake beard and that way they won't guess it's you in the Ferrari, until you start it.

thanks hcvone for the reply. I appreciate your opinion. I'm definitely leaning 55% towards the 458. On the other hand, I have a custom TTS build slot for a car that will be delivered later this year.
I'm not one to factor in depreciation as long as your enjoy the car. That being said, I would drive the living bejezus out of the TTS, whereas the 458 - while it will be driven on Saturday and Sunday morning,
will not rack up nearly the amount of miles.
What to do...what to do...if I had a sledgehammer - I would take it to my head right about now...

If you're able to rev the snot out of the 458, I'd struggle to argue against it. If you are just cruising somewhere near the speed limit and like a comfortable weekend driver, it's the TTS. Or if you're going to drive it frequently, it's the TTS. Or if you like ridiculous power, it's the TTS. But... I'd drive the crap out of the 458 at events and let it sing on infrequent cruises, if that was all I was doing with it.
In other words, it really depends on what you want to do with it.

I was in the same boat a few months ago. In the end I bought a TTS. For me it came down to reliability and the stupid fast acceleration of the TTS, which always makes me smile! And that acceleration I can use almost anywhere - from a stoplight, stop sign, hwy, etc., while I would only truly appreciate the handling of a 458/488/GT3 when on a track... And all the other times, a TTS seems like a better solution.

I am in the same dilemma minus a slot available for TTs. If you don't go 458 perhaps you could foward its info. I am trying to get a TTs slot, however not much luck.

458 vs tturbo-s
I am in the same thought process. I am leaning towards the TTs, however acquiring a slot is becoming difficult. Jumped in too late in the game. If you go turbo perhaps you could share the 458 info with me. The extended power train option is highly recommended.

If mostly point A to point A drives, get the 458. If only occasional A to A, and mostly point A to point B drives, get the 911 TTS. Both cars have similar performance, but the 458 sounds way better and is truly exotic in all aspects. This is not to take anything away from the 911. It's so competent. But the 458 is just more special. PM me if you want more details.

I was going through the same thing. I went from Michigan to California to check out a 2014 458 at Beverly Hills Ferrari and stoped by the Porsche dealer and drove a 2018 911 TTS (my DD is a Panamera TTS). I fell in love with the torque! It is a monster. The only downside is the exhaust note. I shopped around and just picked up a new 2018 chalk TTS specd to my liking with a 8% off MSRP. There are several out there that you can get substantial discounts on of at least 4 or 5%. I figure I will drive it for the summer and then may get an after market exhaust put on.

If you are in love with the 458 but merely like (respect) the TTS...go with the 458. At this point, it is all about which one you will enjoy looking back at as you walk away from it.

Totally get where you are coming from. I'm shopping again too. Have 6 or 7 911s of various flavors. The thought of another turbo bores the crap out of me. 991 TTS is stupid fast but relatively boring, exhaust sounds like a vacuum stock.
458 is an amazing car, still looks new and fresh. Probably not as fast as a TTS but pretty darn close.

This is a great forum, we all own the 991 Turbo, but give respect where it's due. I was also looking at a 458 and was quite close to pulling the trigger, but my use case is different, I use mine as an A to B car and not exclusively and A to A car. Reliability was absolutely a factor, but the sound . . . . the sound! The 458 is GORGEOUS. I love my Turbo, but a 458 is really something special. Sorry, I can't help much, but it was fun to think about the 458 I was looking at-- KH
