tracking 991 turbo with Michelin 4s
Hey guys has anybody tracked the turbo with michelin 4s? how do they feel? Pros and cons? and what hot and cold temps do they suggest?
Thanks |
They will heat quite soon up if you drive litlebit harder. Cup2 will heat and work better, but 4s will heat and start sliding. Good thing is that, you don't need to warm 4s up and for practicing and just for fun they are quite OK. If you want get some times into table and drive more than 10-15 minutes in one session, then skip 4s and go for Michelin Cup2 or Pirelli Trofeo R. Those two bad sides are that, they will wear out 3-5x faster than 4s, even on usual roads + quite bad wet handling.

Take a look at the reviews at the tire rack site. I have Cup2s in my DD (back in a week, Alpins going to storage) and love them on the track. |
Cup2s actually are fine in the rain, so long as there’s no standing water and temps are above 40F. |
Yes, they are fine in rain, but if you compare to 4s, they aren't so good afterall, but defenitly better than R888 in rain. I have owned 3 sets of CUP2-s and planning to buy 4-th.

So finally the big guns for track instead of the Abarth?

There are great in the rain. They are decent in dry conditions, but I got much higher g-forces on my test place using the MPSC2 and TrofeoR.
I have not known a best tire in the rain, it keeps surprising me how good they are. |
The cup 2s are unpredictable- that's the bottom line in any type of damp conditions
I like the p4s as you can drive hard and if you hit a stream of water you won't break loose whereas with the cup 2 - good luck On track - cup 2 hands down Also I prefer how the cup 2 sidewalls being stiffer offer faster turn In |
Honestly, the better way to go is to have a second set of rims & tires for the track.
I used PSS for daily driving and lightweight rims with R888 then Trofeo R for the track. That way I had great daily wet grip, wear and quietness with PSS, but unreal grip on the track with Trofeo R (I don't track in the wet). The grip with Trofeo R is noticeably better than R888. I have Cup 2s on my Ferrari and they are a great all round tire, so if you have to choose only 1, I would go with this. |
