*NEW* TPC Racing 991.1 Turbo S Build for Optima Batteries Street Car Invitational

https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.6sp...47358c7319.jpg

Owner, aerospace engineer, and champion racer Mike Levitas will be piloting our TPC Racing/DSC Sport Porsche 991.1 Turbo S for the Optima Batteries Street Car Invitational of 2018! We stumbled upon this new opportunity back at SEMA a few months back with the idea of showcasing all that we have to offer at TPC Racing and DSC Sport on the track with a street car of our own. We wouldn’t sell our products to the public without the testing and quality control standards that we hold at TPC Racing to this day, so what better way to showcase our products then entering the street car challenge and pushing our capabilities above and beyond to perform.

https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.6sp...6812be3f2d.jpg

When the 991 Turbo S was first delivered, we couldn’t help but adore the luxury of the interior with the street cars already aggressive look on 19 inch wheels with carbon ceramic brakes right from the start! Don’t forget the excitement over the forced induction system that will be immediately addressed with larger TPC Racing turbos VGT, TPC Racing intercoolers, TPC Racing tuner and ecu tune, TPC Racing BiMode HiFlo active exhaust, and more inspired from our 680Blitzkrieg turbo package.

https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.6sp...3b9ecd3509.jpg

The first time we put the 991 Turbo S on the lift, all the fluids were changed, and we took a good look of what we could remove and replace on the entire vehicle. The blueprint for this build was taking off and we had many different ideas of how we could develop the car.

https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.6sp...682a4b33df.jpg

https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.6sp...6e611aac64.jpg

Mike has been driving the 991 Turbo S on the road with the DSC Sport V3 controller with Dual-Mode exhaust control installed and already has been adjusting the calibration file for his driving style. Soon enough, we will be installing the Tractive Suspension damper set to the vehicle to further enhance the suspension setup along with the TPC Racing active sway bar kit, TPC Racing adjustable toe links, TPC Racing full monoball system including control arms and spherical bearings, and more that will be sitting on a set of new Forgeline wheels.

https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.6sp...a210510d6a.jpg

As the parts are coming in, we had an extensive amount of work and challenges ahead to prepare the 991 Turbo S for the season. So far, the TPC Racing GT2RSx carbon fiber body kit arrived that will be outfitted to the car including hood, fenders, quarter panels, deck lid, trunk, wing, front and rear bumper, front aero, and more to start our weight savings.

https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.6sp...52c03af0bc.jpg

We are ecstatic for the opportunity to explore this new venture with Mike Levitas and his expertise that has the advantages in our favor! The livery from the 991 cup car will be matched for the livery on the 991 Turbo S after the body panel work has been complete! Be sure to stay tuned for updates and progress on this new program for the 991 Turbo S!

With progress made, we thought it was time for an update to keep everyone on their toes!

We stripped the Turbo S of its factory body work to fit the new GT2RSx carbon fiber package that was to be outfitted to the car.

https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.6sp...228884347e.jpg

All compatible factory wiring harnesses, lights, and hardware items were in need to be transferred to the new carbon fiber bodywork.

https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.6sp...0d3e313854.jpg

https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.6sp...9720bb08e1.jpg

As we began fitment of the deck lid, we saw the need for modification for the ducting to the factory plenum as well as the carbon fiber rear deck cover needed to be slightly modified for factory mounting.

https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.6sp...860472d2bc.jpg

The bodywork for the rear was coming together nicely and the rear wing was ready to be fitted. While the rear bodywork was off, we took the time to fabricate larger intercooler pipes.

https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.6sp...66159fed7d.jpg

The front end was to be addressed and we proceeded with fitment of its new bumper, fenders, and aero. We were all very eager for the 991 Turbo S to see sunlight.

I think this is probably the best thread I've ever seen on Rennlist! I have not commented before...because I'm just speechless! I can't wait to see the final build specs, and then ultimately bring my car up to TPC Racing to get some portion of the final options.

I called these guys to ask about the DSC V3 box, and ended up talking to Mike Levitas for about 45 minutes about all of the options and setups possible for the 991 TTS. This guy knows suspensions!!

DSC Sport 03-09-2018 04:13 PM

The Turbo S AKA the TPC Racing GT2RSx was wrapped as we mentioned before to correspond with Mike Levitas’ #36 991 Cup Car livery. ENS Graphics did a great job on designing and wrapping the new fascia and corners of the Optima Batteries Street Car SEMA Build to give it a distinct look that won’t be mistaken for anything else.

At a certain point, we had to move the GT2RSx back into another suitable spot in order to use our alignment rack, so here is where they finished the vinyl wrap with our partners and sponsors for the season clearly labeled.

The next phase of the project was to focus on the suspension upgrades including upgrading to 991 C4 Tractive RT Suspension as well as upgrading the OEM bushings on the hub assemblies to Elephant racing monoball spherical bearings all around. We dropped the rear hub assemblies to focus on the new bushings installation first.

https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.6sp...9b1eeece32.jpg

https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.6sp...22303b901c.jpg

Here we have Mike and our lead mechanic Marco strategizing the next phase.

https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.6sp...d582c2661b.jpg

The goal for replacing the OEM bushings to spherical monoball bushings is to replace rubber with spherical bearings that hold precise camber and toe, eliminate flex from the suspension, and to make the car handling predictable and easier to drive fast.

https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.6sp...4b5a948652.jpg

https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.6sp...0b7b3de66a.jpg

The 991 Tractive RT Suspension is a direct OEM replacement to the factory PASM suspension. Tractive Suspension includes top of the line quality with Billet Aluminum monoball top plates, hats, and spring collars . First we put the Tractive RT damper on the shock dyno to get our base numbers for the current shock valving and determine if we were going to make any changes.

https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.6sp...f20f9076f2.jpg

https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.6sp...fedbac7bb0.jpg

After the suspension numbers were recorded, we assembled the Tractive RT Suspension with the Billet Aluminum top plates, hats, and SWIFT springs. While the hub assemblies were out of the car, it was the perfect opportunity to install our TPC Racing Billet Aluminum thrust arm caster bushings.

https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.6sp...8c8110fba0.jpg

Thanks to Forgeline, a sponsor of our Optima Batteries street car GT2RSx build, we were delighted to install a set of 19” Forgeline GA1R-CL in a gun metal gray finish sitting on Bridgestone Potenza RE-71R’s.

https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.6sp...915126a6ce.jpg

Final assembly of the suspension components were going smooth and soon we will be able to see the GT2RSx street car build sit on its new shoes and ready for a TPC Racing track-spec alignment.

Major thanks to our sponsor PFC Brakes, we got new PFC Brake GT3 Cup calipers for our GT2RSx to replace the OEM Porsche calipers and carbon ceramic rotors. The front calipers are 6-piston calipers while the rear calipers are 4-piston with amazing quality and finish. The Turbo S will be ready to stop on a dime during the Speed-Stop challenges throughout the Optima Batteries Street Car Challenge events with this incredible brake upgrade.

As we moved forward with the project, it was time to engineer a bolt-in harness bar for our 991 and the market that would be easy for DIY and that would complement our RT4009W Racetech seats and 6-point Racetech harnesses. In the end, we have a great product to offer as you can see below and 100% manufactured in house. Contact us for availability on the TPC Racing 991 safety harness bar kits!

As an added bonus, we added a carbon fiber gurney flap to enhance the rear aero as well as cup car front fender flares to enhance the front. The carbon fiber gurney flap was modified to fit the curvature of the rear wing and the fender flares were modified from cup car parts we had at the shop.

After bedding the new brakes and test driving the GT2RSx for the first time with all of its new features, we did final prep for our first Optima Batteries Street Car Challenge event at NOLA Motorsports Park in New Orleans on April 14-15, 2018! Mike will be taking the GT2RSx to VIR this week to do some final testing before NOLA!

Be on the lookout for the next update on our build thread with first impressions, video highlights, NOLA Motorsports Park USCA event results, and more!

We’re at NOLA to test the TPC Racing/DSC Sport Porsche 991 GT2RSx in preparation for this weekend’s competition. Reigning 2017 OUSCI Champion Ken Thwaits stopped by to meet Mike and scope out our car. Should be an epic battle and a sure one to watch!!!

Be sure to stay subscribed for updates on the event results!

Randyc151 05-04-2018 09:49 AM

Is there a concise but detailed listing of all of the changes/mods to this car? I need to start working on a budget!! Also, what's the price for this whole package?

TPC Racing 06-12-2018 08:55 AM

The GT2RSx has went on a diet! With ~ 70lbs in weight reduction, we removed the sunroof top and converted the USCA build to a slick top, removing the sunroof, tracking, and sunroof motor. While we had the chance, we removed the rear OEM Porsche window to replace it with the lightweight Porsche Motorsport GT3 cup rear window.

https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.6sp...920648bc8b.jpg

With an overall finish of 2nd at our first event and setting the Hot Lap pace at NOLA, we look forward to our next event and the opportunity to earn an invitation to the Las Vegas Final! Be sure to look out for the #36 GT2RSx and Mike Levitas at the next upcoming events! Speaking of which, the diet between events for the GT2RSx should be very beneficial!

As the season for the Optima Battery's USCA has come to a close at SEMA, we have plans this winter to develop the ultimate 991 RSx Blitzkrieg package for marginal HP gain on the GT2RSx which as some may know started as a 991.1 Turbo.

https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...db7c58d8e0.jpg

With the engine out, changes to the tune, addition of the TPC Racing intercooler kit, the charge Y-pipe, and a change from the restrictive OEM intake manifolds, look to see marginal gains the next time we rip the GT2RSx on the Dyno with the Dyno results.

https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...9690496d8c.jpg
https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...9c6d700c02.jpg
https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...5a4b90912d.jpg

We have been testing with changes to the tune before and now are putting more aftermarket performance products into this build to get the gains we are looking for to provide to the market. Less restriction for more airflow is the key!

https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...4a6049a244.jpg

With the perfect combination in parts and a perfected tune, in short time we will have the 991 RSx Blitzkrieg package by TPC Racing for the 991 Turbo which will be bullet proof for the consumer looking for a marginal gain without sacrificing reliability. Stay tuned for developments on the GT2RSx build as we continue our tinkering on developing the ultimate package for gains and for you!

Mike looks like he's at peace with this!

Still awaiting a price list for all the options. (Also, better not try to test a TTS on that particular dyno. AWD?)

You are right, Mike looks like he is at peace and also thinking of his next move! The driveshaft to the front was removed for the purpose of the Dyno runs.
