Regular non-car people can't tell the difference in model years on cars like the R8. They will just see it as an exotic. Same for most any Ferrari. Most can't even tell a 360 from a 458 or think they are current cars only different models.

Porsche 911s have been around for 50 years and most people think the more recent ones are just newer versions of the same car (which isn't really that far off). So while it would depend on where you live as to whether a Porsche (any sports car model, including a Cayman) would be "too flashy," most often they're not considered too flashy, and certainly not so compared to any R8.

A friend of a friend of a friend had a Porsche and drove it to work one day. He was never heard from again...

It’s funny how a used Porsche might be considered “too flashy”, but a new GMC Denali pickup truck with a sticker price of $80K+ is perfectly acceptable.

Yes. And an Aston V8V - at $40-50k used - would be considered much more flashy and over the top than either the GMC pickup or a new 911.

Yup. You can buy a very nice late '90s Rolls-Royce for well under $50K. Is that too ostentatious?

Sorry I’m a skeptic.

The doctor's lot at my hospital contains: Aston Martin, BMW M, BMW Alpina, Corvette, Ferrari, Jaguar, Mercedes AMG including GT, Mercedes G wagons, Porsche-all models, Ruf Porsche, Tesla, all the usual luxury brands, and even lifted trucks and Jeeps. Drive what you want.

One of my favorite quotes from Rennlist says: Life is too short to drive a ****box.

I daily drive my white TTS.2 and it's not an issue at all. People rarely notice the car. I also own a matte space grey BMW X5, which draws more attention than the turbo does - insane, but fact. Each time I test drive another sports car, I immediately see people looking at it. For example I drove a BMW i8 a month ago, and people did as much as come ask me to take pictures with it with the falcon wings up. This never happens with the Porsche. They are simply taken as "too mainstream" and people don't really tell the difference between a TTS or a Cayman, or a 20 year old Targa. They are all the same to like 90% of the people. So just get it and care less

As long as you don’t get the deviated stitching or extended leather then you won’t be too flashy. Also as a tip, do t opt for the fuse box covers in leather. Other than that you should be good!

A TTS is not too flashy...that's the beauty of it.

I added the sharkwerks pipe to spice it up...love it.

Had an R8...didn't like it!

Only if you drive it wearing a tie dye jumpsuit, fishnet stockings and a Top Hat. Other than that mostly unnoticeable.

nothing flashy about a 997 Turbo. (as long as it is not a jelly bean color)

997 is a practical car that happens to be fun to drive. Very professional IMO.

I use my 997 turbo everywhere. Ski rack on the roof, Child seat in the back.
