Default Serious electric problems?

it seems that this new Gt3 was just picked up by some Canadians at Leipzig ..70 km after some smoke was noticed. It seems that the engine is not involved. The driver and his wife are ok. But now we have to know what happened...SAD!!!!!

The article quotes a Porsche Spokesperson saying that the fire was likely created by an electrical issue at the front of the car and is not related to the engine. I feel very bad for the new owners - how disappointing. If it is a bad batch of components like motors for the fans they will recall the part. It will mean delays in RS production for sure if this is the case. If it is a manufacturing defect or a part defect such as a battery that can easily be swapped or a wire that got trapped in construction then I shouldnt imagine it will be such a large issue.

We wait and see!

Looking more closely at the picture would appear the fire has eminated from the drivers side (LHD) front fan assembly area?

Also worthy to note aluminium melts faster than steel! Wonder how fast Magnesium goes up in flames?

Magnesium is highly flammable and burns hot: more than 3000 degrees C. It would be a really good idea to be outside the car when the roof of your new RS goes up, for lots of reasons.

Where's the rear wing? Did it just melt or something? Really wild, glad no one was hurt.

Here is the article which was posted by User 'GoHardGT3RS' which he found in Rennteam:

http://www.bild.de/regional/leipzig/...3214.bild.html

A quick Google translate to get the 'gist':

"A brand new 911 GT3 (500 hp) was the dream of a Canadian couple. To meet him, it was a special trip from Pfingsten to Leipzig to pick up the EUR 140 000 expensive sports car from the factory. The woman was driving on the A9 southbound, as both just 70 kilometers suddenly smoke inside notice. The driver can just stop on the hard shoulder, as already flare flame in the area of the front wheel. When the fire brigade arrives shortly thereafter, the luxury Renner is just a wreck. Porsche spokesman Hans-Gerd Bode: "The car we brought to the factory in Leipzig in order to analyze the cause." The fire did not break out accordingly in the engine compartment. Bode: "Maybe there was a problem with the electrical system." The couple got asked replacement cars available from Porsche, sat in their Germany trip continues ..."
