Your 2014 GT3 - Alcantara or Leather Steering Wheel
I'm still a bit undecided on which way to go with the steering wheel in my GT3 build.
Considering:
1. Smooth leather option will hold up better (seems to be Rennlist Concensus).
2. Alcantara is a composite, man-made material essentially an artificial substitute for suede leather.
3. Smooth leather is of course leather, a natural product.
4. The feel of alcantara has been said to be like "having relations with your car".
5. There is a lot of alcantara in a GT3 interior when you choose the full leather option.
6. The steering wheel is a focal point.
7. There are protectants and cleaners that work on alcantara (e.g. 3M Scotchgard Leather Protector for Suede and Nubuck).
8. The sweatier your hands the faster the alcantara will soil.
9. The wheel can eventually be recovered (~$400 USD) or replaced (> $1000 USD).
What are you going to choose to cover the wheel in your build in and why?
Thanks,
Ryan

I'm 90% certain I'll go with leather. Well, maybe 80%. I like how the alcantera looks and feels, but the wear and soiling issue would bother me and unless I could be assured that a re-cover job would look exactly like OEM, with all the proper stitching, that just leaves replacement which would be over $1500. (A leather sport design wheel at Suncoast costs $1549...alcantera would be even more.)

Well Mike, you'll just have to come down here to the heart of Silicon Valley with mostly non-English speaking (and licensed??) drivers and you'd be good.. I'm actually having to "wave" my black old-fart gloves out the window to get a point-by on the way from the gas station back to my house

I am going with Alacantara. If the leather wheel had red stitching, I would have chose it. I figure if it gets messed up in, say, 3 years, a recover would not be all that pricey (considering).

Wait a minute, I thought that if you get red stitching , you get it on the leather wheel too. Did you look on the 3D version after having selected red stitching and leather wheel?
