FABSPEED MOTORSPORT | 991 GT3 / GT3 RS Long Tube Competition Race Header System

Fabspeed Motorsport is proud to announce the launch of our Porsche 991 GT3 / GT3 RS / 911 R Long Tube Competition Race Header System.

When the first 991 GT3s landed on North American soil, our engineering team immediately got to work and developed a Race Header to maximize the performance of the track weapon. Our initial short tube modular header design was very successful, but there was a demand for more. Consequently, we were approached to enhance a GT3 RS and welcomed the opportunity to refine our long tube header design further. After extensive development, including dyno and track testing of various designs, we’ve uncovered the correct formula to unlock the maximum performance and exhaust flow from the Porsche 991 GT3 / GT3 RS / 911 R.

We can certainly craft our own collectors but we always keep an open mind and consider all options. We decided to source the highest quality collectors and the years of experience that comes along with them - we’ve happily paired up with Burns Stainless. One of the key features of the system is the Burns Stainless slip on collectors. If you are not familiar with Burns Stainless - their merge collectors are motorsport proven and have been widely used in NASCAR, NHRA, ALMS, FIA-GT, and Grand Am as well.

Our decision to utilize Burns Stainless slip on collectors was easy, their superior design and 30 years of proven performance in motorsport racing provided more than enough reasoning. Their collectors are custom engineered using Burns' proprietary X-design parametric computer program. The collectors combine high flow and high velocity to increase and broaden an engine's torque curve all the way to the horsepower peak and beyond.

Throughout the Long Tube Race Header development process, we also took a look at our Side Muffler Bypass Pipes and how we can improve them. In our quest to provide the highest quality exhaust solution for the 991 GT3 / GT3 RS / 911 R, we have decided to utilize premium Helical valves.

https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...f2fe174fa1.jpg

We chose to use Helical Valves for their unprecedented quality - which has been proven by many OEM manufacturers such as Porsche, McLaren, Ferrari, Lamborghini, and many more. Helical valves are an integral part of our Side Muffler Bypass pipes, opening and closing with precision to control the gas flow and optimizing engine back-pressure for improved performance. Helical’s extensive experience in high-volume OEM automotive applications has led to standard features such as an extremely durable pneumatic actuator, precision flat sealing faces inside the valve, stiffening ribs and high-temperature bearings at both ends of the butterfly spindle.

We also relocated the O2 bungs from the collector of the headers to the Side Muffler Bypass Pipes in order to maintain factory-like functionality with our Long Tube Competition Headers - allowing them to read all cylinders while maximizing the performance of the collector.

POWER:
We developed our headers to make power with and without an ECU Tune. While the hardware made significant gains alone, we found its full power potential was realized when combined with our proprietary tune. As tested on a GT3 RS, our Long Tube Competition Race Header System with ECU Tune adds 38 whp and 26 ft/lbs of torque at 7650 RPM. Further down the rev range, our Header System gives you major mid range grunt: 24 whp and 28 ft/lbs of torque at 4500 RPM. Without the ECU Tune, you can expect solid gains of 24 whp and 16 ft/lbs at 7650 RPM and 23 whp and 26 ft/lbs at 4500 RPM.

WEIGHT:
Our header system weighs 36lbs less than the factory headers and side muffler bypass pipes.

Very nice looking kit with nice performance. Do you have numbers for a GT3 too?

Pricing is competitive considering the following.
Cost on Helix flappers is not inexpensive. Bulk pricing, if I am not mistaken, is ~300 a piece.
Burns collectors also pricey. Vestment casting of the header flange is also pricey but quality. CNC tube bender is nice cause angle is not dictated by a J bend. So with all that being said $5500 is fair price.

Thank you for the kind words! Your car looks awfully familiar, I wonder where i've seen you before haha

We had a GT3 in house for a number of our preliminary prototypes, and the gains we saw were just as impressive as that on the GT3RS. We did not have a GT3 local to dyno the final version, although based on the previous prototype R&D data and results on the RS we are expecting just as impressive numbers. I have a few local GT3 guys that i'm teasing to come in, although the lovely PA winter weather is putting a damper on things haha.

Hi John,

Vince from Burns here.

Glad to see you got the headers built and in production. They look great! Love the flanges. They look to give a real smooth transition from the port. This is where the gases flow the quickest and can lose energy if not done properly.

The dyno curve looks great as well. You were able to pick up the power all the way through the rpm band - that 's the merge at work. That will really be fun to drive. I like the way the fit up snug in the car too.

Talk to you soon,

I agree on investment casting of the flanges. Very clean.

Hammering a round pipe to fit a water jetted flange is not nearly as "clean"

Fabspeed, take a close up of the flange so we can have a better look.

Hello Vince,

It was great to chat with you on the phone a few times, and what a pleasure to see you here on the forums as well! I appreciate you chiming in and the compliments, we put a lot of effort into the R&D to maximize the potential of your merge, and am thrilled to see you pick up on some of the underlying gems of the design :)

Beautiful 993 by the way

Thanks Nick! I'll chat with our marketing guru tomorrow morning and see what pictures I can get.

Fellow Rennlist member Nick Yoskin stopped by with his GT3RS this past week for the installation of our Long Tube Competition Race Header System.

"The power improvements were noticeable as soon as I hit the first on ramp! The increase in midrange torque is noticeable when rolling on the throttle thru long sweeping turns. Once out the turn the bump in horsepower is felt all the way to red line!"

Here are some pictures and video of the experience. Sound is off the hook and the performance gains give a heck of kick over factory! If anyone wants to chat about the upgrades and/or are interested in picking up a set, give me a shout anytime

Will be giving you guys a call when my 991.2 GT3 comes. The 1/4 mile posts from Nick have convinced me. Seems like his car made a lot of power stock though.

Jimmy-D 04-19-2017 02:04 PM

Have you made LT Sport Header w/Cats yet?

Below is the dyno graph from Nick's car with just the hardware no software. Nick's car is throwing down no doubt, but it definitely saw a great improvement from our package. Very much look forward to working with you on the 991.2, i'll PM you to follow up and we'll make it happen : )

Sounds nice and deep, welds look amazing, and it's competitively priced. Can't wait for my 991.2 GT3 to arrive. This might be the first mod. :D
