And they're about a handful of people on here that are actually getting one so they're truly excited. I believe the rest of us feel like I felt throughout my life when I could never be just friends with a hot woman...I'd want to bang her too much.

This guy is laughable. He loves all the noises and rawness and lack of sound deadening etc in this car but all of that in other mfg cars make them torture devices etc. Love the bias in what passes for auto journalism nowadays.

That obvious lunacy out the way this car is great. Love the looks, the sound, the ethos of it. Too bad less than a fraction of a percent of 1 percent of the population will get to enjoy it...

Mother F@&63$. They would sell 3,000 at msrp but they let dealers and flippers profit instead. Halo only works in real limited quantities, this isn't a halo car like the 918. It's a sucker's bet when the GT3 991.2 debuts with a manual.

I am very surprised to see people's perception that when the 991.2 GT3 comes out, the value of the R will plummet.

People who are on the list to receive a R at MSRP are Porsche's VIP clients around the world. These are the customer group that has the most $$$ and the biggest collection of Porsches combined. Do you think this group of folks doesn't know about the upcoming 991.2 GT3 with a manual transmission? Of course they do! Do you think they will sell their R at a discount when the GT3 comes out, because the GT3 is a better and faster car? Of course not.

And for those people who bought the R at the current market price (whether they are true Porsche enthusiasts or not), do you think they care about the upcoming 991.2 GT3 which is non-limited and mass produced? I don't think they care either. Do you think they will dump their cars at a discount when the GT3 comes out? Perhaps they will sell it at a small loss because they got tired of it, but it will never go back anywhere close to MSRP again.

So please explain your logic to me, because I don't get it. In the long term, I believe the R will always carry a 150-250K markup.

To be clear, I mean the folks that may pay the current crazy prices $699k+. Make no mistake, I love the car and think it will hold its value. I'm just pissed because I had a deposit down for it before the dealer had any idea what it might be at a place I've bought a bunch of cars from and the limited number coupled with the VIP program prohibited my acquisition.

I'll likely not buy the 991.2 GT3 or any other Porsche at this point because an MSO 570S is looking like a better alternative anyway.

I still don't get the R. All the weight savings should have been applied to the track car, the RS.

Can't rule out the possibility that they'll eventually produce a new car in the same vein as the R, maybe an even better car than the current R (compared to the 'pure' air-cooled 911s of yesteryear, the R is laden with technology). Valuations on the current R will surely drop at that point.

Actually, the opposite will happen. If they make another R like car several years down the line, it will help the R's valuation. Look at the CGT and the 918. Or the latest RS and the effect it had on the earlier 997.2 RS. People don't think rationally. Especially with newer cars that are better and faster. Older cars with its idiosyncrasy will have more "character."

RS, has all the light weight stuff, ok not the less soundproofing form the R, but that would not help performance.

I look at the CGT and 918 as being unique, quite unlike each other or any other Porsches. They're not variants of a 911 or anything else.

The R isn't that unique, it's largely a hybrid variant of the GT3 and RS with a manual transmission and retuning to make it more fun on the road. They could easily use a similar recipe to make a new R based on a future generation of the GT3 and RS.

When the next GT3 and/or RS comes out with manual, I predict that will drop the valuations on the 997.2 RS, and the current R as well.

A parts bin car they have created a mystique for. If it were regular production at MSRP they would hear crickets. Just my 2 cents.
