Could this be the 991.2 GT3?

I think i would be out too and just wait out the next RS. Although that would could be 2 full years until delivery. Ugh..

I remember writing somewhere on RL saying i predict it will be below 500 and probably 490. Looks like i could be onto something

It's all academic. I was expecting it might be 495, just to keep the R and RS guys happy. But that's a 1% difference to 500 and nobody will know the difference when driving...

We need to consider apples with apples.
The 991 GT3 was 350KW officially which is 469 Imperial BHP and 475 metric hp (PS).
This is 123bhp/L and 125PS/L.
The NA production car record as I understand it was set by the Ferrari 458 Speciale a year after the at 991 GT3 at 445KW (4.5L). This is 597 imperial BHP and 605 Metric HP (PS). That is 133bhp/L and 134PS/L....
The 991.1 GT3RS is 368KW which is 493 imperial BHP and 500 metric BHP (PS). It is also the same output per L as the 991 GT3 (123/125-L).
If the 991.2 GT3 retained the 3.8L capacity and made 488 imperial BHP (364KW) it would produce 495 metric HP (PS).
This would mean it is producing 128.5 BHP/L and 132PS/L
Is this feasible or likely? Well YES its feasible as each generation of Porsche and Ferrari NA engine has a habit of beating the power/volumetric efficiency of the outgoing model.
To look at this another way. Porsche would be REMISS NOT TO INCREASE THE OUTPUT PER LITRE of the next generation engine assuming it had the same swept capacity. By way of example, the next RS if there is one is very likley to remian at 4.0L but do we expect it to produce 123/125 hp/L? No. We probably expect it to produce around 20 hp more peak power so that would be 520PS and 130PS/hp which ties up perfectly with the above calculation...
Dundon Motorsport Race headers (and soon Catted headers) have proven that the 469 bhp/475PS Porsche 991 GT3 3.8L engine can produce a minimum (most customers have proven much higher numbers on independent dynos) of 501 bhp and 508 PS which puts the 991 GT3 into 132/134 hp/L category very similar to the 458 Speciale. So there is power on the table, even catted for emissions, if Porsche wish to use them. They dont even need to extend the rev line beyond 8750 to do so....
The is no reason at all PAG cannot achieve their generational power/marketing objectives using the 3.8L engine in the new GT3.
This is not my personal advocacy for them using the 3.8L engine, I to would be surprised if they would do so, however there is alot of sense in using this engine. It is now with all its revisions identical to the very latest RS and 911R engine save for the crank, an expensive item we are told which perhaps Porsche wont wish to spend on the GT3. The 3.8L can rev higher (assumes same duress's). Id imagine it is marginally lighter as well. Also it needs pointing out that the induction system used for the RS will not be present in the 911R and 991.2 Gt3 so even if the same 4.0L were deployed its questionable if the cars would make exactly teh same power without the ram air induction system of the RS (AP made much hoo ha about this at launch - who knows what difference it actually makes as the 911R stated figures are identical to RS with a less and ideal and traditional rear deck intake etc)...
Just some food for thought before the Fat Lady Sings...

calexio, have you heard anything from your 918 friend regarding displaxement?
It seems that well connected people have been told both 3.8 and 4.0.
I think itll be a 4.0. I believe one of the 918 owners here was told 4.0 derived from the GT3R with an improved oiling system. That seems awfully specific to me.
It'll be interesting to see it all unfold

The next GT3 could have a Ford Eco Boost engine, a tranny from a Honda Civic, & the chassis lifted from a Reliant Robin & it will still sell for $50k over sticker....

Porsche is in the business of making money. The 911r is already sold and won't be coming down in price anytime soon, even with a manual 4.0 gt3. It will still be lighter, limited production and be more raw with less sound deadening. I doubt they will care that 911r's will be worth 3-400k instead of a mill.
The 4.0L has been proven to be more reliable than the 3.8 and they already have it mated to a manual in the 911r. This saves them time and headaches. Less warranty work and money spent. Again they are in the business of making money so this would be easier. The displacement increased for the 997 gen, why wouldn't they in the 991? Also, the new turbo c2s can probably keep up with 991.1 gt3 lap times. They need the 4.0 to increase the gap between the c2s and GT3. The 3.8 does not have enough torque. Journalists have mostly all said 4.0 with manual option and usually the journalists are right. They were right about the GT4, 991.1 RS and 911r. Either would be fine with me as long as there is a third pedal, but the 4.0 makes a lot more sense.
