"While the second generation Porsche 991 Carrera has only just been launched, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that Zuffenhausen is already preparing for the 911’s next major overhaul as the Porsche 992 is due to be launched in just two years time at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show."

I would've thought this is a troll post if not for your post count...
PAG in recent history has never turned down the chance to make a .2 car. It just makes pure economic sense with R&D already largely invested. And .2 "specials" have always overlapped with the successor model since time immemorial...

I would think Paul Granville and Crex are Troll' replies if not for the post counts of the latter...
so Crex
point 1
If you want to blame Total911free to do that
but my thinking is that
is not because 996 platform did something that necessarly means anything for 991 992
but if you want really to be consistent and take the 996/7 as a reference then
point 2
I see the Total911 point of view
and is for sure worth a thought
992 can be for 991 not that radical change
as 997 was for 996
so it is plausible as stated by Total911 a 992 so early announced September 2017
prod MY2018
not a lot of time for so many 991.2 GTx and their R RS versions
thus this is why
there won't be all the expected 991.2 GTx and the next 992
