Thanks for the write up.
But a track day should also be included as a validation to ever consider any car but Porsche GTx

I thought tracking my 12C was awesome. Fast, no body roll, excellent steel brakes with no fade. Sound of GT3 much better and throttle response better too. The thing that made me trade it was limp mode on one summer day on the track at 104F. I know it was hot, but I don't accept that in my cars.

jpohill: I have a second home in Estes Park. I also visit throughout the year but spend more time there in the summer. Parker is a couple hours away. I appreciate your offer and may take you up on it when my schedule is clear.

I know the 650S is better overall than 12C but it is out of my price range for now. Maybe with another 2 years of depreciation I can afford one. With McLaren, I see no disadvantage to a Spider other than a higher entry cost so my next text drive will hopefully be in one. I suspect it will help the exhaust sound a lot and add to the overall fun. I felt a slight sense of isolation in the 12C coupe for whatever reason. Opening the top would definitely cure this.

Right now residual values for a 2014 GT3 and 2012 12C's are about the same.
As expensive as Porsche's are, it shows what good value they are.
Any exotic product gets correspondingly more expensive as the law of diminishing returns sets in. I consider used Mclaren's to be a great buy right now. It's a shocking amount of car for around $150k.

John,

Sounds good. If time permits we can make it happen.

Agree in this car really no disadvantage to having the Spider. The sound with the rear window lowered is great! I do have the Sport exhaust on my Coupe which has a good sound - could still be a bit louder IMO. Not sure why it is an option as it should be standard.
The nice thing is aftermarket exhausts are basically a slip on and some can be had at reasonable prices.
Both the GT3 and McLaren have their own special qualities. I would have a hard time choosing if I was forced to pick one.

JP/John, out of curiosity where do you get your 12C/650S serviced in Denver?

My car was purchased out of Greenwich CT.
Choices for service are either Dallas or Scottsdale - 2 closest dealers to Denver.
Ship it down and back. I was told McLaren will also dispatch a tech to my location if needed - hopefully that never happens.
Regular maint. interval is yearly so not to painful.

That's what I thought, thanks. Hope FoD gets their McLaren franchise.

Several GT3's going into limp mode at Thunderhill in Norcal in the height of summer as well. Sure there were a couple of bad 12C's when they first came out but I believe Macs to be very reliable cars on the whole - they just got labeled early on.

Please put up a million photos of the VB when you get it. Oh to get a new P14 in voodoo blue - that would be a dream!!!

Curious to hear what you find. It's been a while since I heard they were thinking of it, around the time the new owner bought it.
