Yeah,Porsche was surprised at the demand GT4 has created. No joke,what did they expect?! They should've given it even more power and shorter gear ratios,but then it would've affected their 911 sales. I guess they've finally figured out us old timers,hairdressers,gays and people who can't afford a 911 are a significant group of buyers as well.
The manual transmission is not dead,not as long as I'm breathing...and many others think like me or follow my lead.

+1, never sell our manual cars, they are irreplaceable.

I had a chance to go for a good drive in the GT4 and my initial impression was that it was more "fun" than my '16 GT3. I think the manual transmission had a lot to do with it. There - I said it!

Just imagine how fun the GT4 would have been with the motor in your GT3 (or a manual in your GT3 that was shrunk to the size/weight of a GT4)? :thumbup:

Good for you and certainly the 991 GT3 and RS with PDK-S have their place in history and are fantastic cars! Although,as always,it does beg the question how these cars would've been had a manual transmission option would have been offered and a 9K engine. If you ask me,they would've been epic,perhaps the best 911 ever built! :thumbup:

manuals are fun. but we all know there is a trade-off. All people and magazines care about is 0-60, 1/4 mile, horsepower, ring times. Its what sells cars unfortunately.

As chris harris said : "we need to get back to a place where we are enjoying performance for its quality, not because of its quantity"

Yes,but Chris Harris along many other auto journalists are " walking " a fine line between being objective and realize they are sponsored by manufacturers. Whether the manual transmission will continue its existence or whether cars will become autonomous can be a moot point to these journalists,they like it or not,they still need to keep their jobs.

Exactly! I'm excited about this car not because I'll ever be able to own one,but because it will prove my theory that Porsche can in fact pair this engine with a manual transmission!

I disagree that "all" buyers of the RS really care about those statistics. I don't even know what the 0-60, 1/4 mile and ring time are for an RS to be honest, and I don't really care either. My intuition says that a 500hp, 3,000 pound(ish) 911 with trick aero and 4WS is going to be fast enough for me. I'd even venture to say that I'm not in the minority on that. It would be interesting to know how many people cross-shopped an RS (not many I suspect). On the other hand, the marketing strategy of cars like the Z06 and Vipers seem heavily dependent on performance statistics as they are used to reinforce the value proposition against European cars.

That said, I wouldn't want my RS in a stick but conversely, also wouldn't want my GT4 in a PDK. I think the offered transmissions are well suited to the character of each engine/vehicle.

Oh yeah,I still like to read books printed on paper... :D

Sweet, I'm so going to make my daughter a shirt like that when she passes her driving test in two months. She's not happy that I'm making her drive a stick.
