Default 991.2 GT2/GT2RS

Now that the 991.2 Turbo/Turbo S are out, when are we expecting the GT2/GT2RS to be unveiled? Anyone in the know have any specs?

My dealer is taking in deposits but without the promise of Porsche actually building them or any specs.

There is zero info out there. Not even a prototype spotted. I hope they build it, I would be a buyer. I personally would not put up hard $ at this point.

It's a bit confusing because what is the GT2/RS suppose to compete with? The 650S/675LT and 488GTB? If so it would be extremely difficult because of the McLaren's trick suspension and the MonoCell and if its to compete with the 488GTB then Porsche should work really hard on reducing turbo lag since it is one of the 488's biggest achievements that most journalists are raving about.

I would love a GT2/RS but is there a business case to build one? Since only a very few 997 GT2s were ever built in comparison to other Porsche products and its rivals.

I would rather drive the turbo mac. Love the fact it takes a millisecond to kick in and boom your gone warp speed. I haven't driven the 488, but these newer cars virtually have no turbo lag. The real turbo lag was the 90's 911 turbos.

All the journalists are also raving about the 675 which i would love to own over any other car right now.

675LT is the best car I have ever driven. 991GT3RS is not close but in theory should only be half the price, so that makes the 991RS a better choice for 80% of people...

for similar costs (market is nearly 300k RS vs 395k for 675LT) there is no way anyone driving them back to back can not like the 675LT better.

I have a deposit at my local dealership and they are not sure but most likely 2017 is what his best guess is at this time.

Well I've never driven either the 675LT or the 488GTB but friends of mine whom I trust when it comes to these issues have told me they are unbelievable the latest turbo charged car I've driven is a 997.1 Turbo.

I agree with you, in terms of experience I enjoy a little turbo lag even if it is for a couple of milliseconds. However if Porsche were to build a 991.2 GT2 it would have an anti-lag system of some sorts. Andreas Preuninger has already confirmed that Porsche will build one but it worries me is that we haven't seen any mules and my dealer literally knows nothing about it.

Word is they have been testing 2 new model turbo mules in Germany whether that is the new GT3 or GT2.

GT2 & GT2RS sound good, but will Porsche make a mid-engined car to really compete with McLaren & Ferrari? The 960?

No info anywhere on this. Is it officially dead due to the VW scandel?

i am often confuse about which model from Porsche is to compete against which model from other manufacture.

In my point of view, turbo and turbo s is to compete against car such as Ferrari F12, Lamborghini Aventador and Aston Martin Vanquish where it is much more comfortable to drive.

And i think Porsche should just skip GT2 and go directly to GT2RS to compete against car like F12TDF, SV, 675LT but then build the GT2RS like how they build the 991 RS. With some rawness and some technology for easier driving. Yes.. it is meant to be raw and raw and raw but again, who would really actually enjoy a very raw supercar on the road?

it would actually be more delightful if GT2RS has a very raw race car look with lots of carbon bits and even carbon internal door panel and so on but with a more comfortable ride and more complicated technology in it.

Definitely agree with you, I would love an extremely raw and visceral feeling car than one that does the numbers and doesn't stir up the soul!

Asked my dealer about that, he said there was talk about a competitor for the McLaren P14 and the Ferrari 488 GTB pre-scandal but now there isn't anymore and no official or unofficial confirmation that they are going to build it.
