You own one of these? The initial versions were so buggy that many of the enthusiastic initial backers in the barista forums dumped them - i'm curious about the technology.... even in "espresso mode" it's obviously not espresso... but better than Nespresso I assume? How long have you owned it?

I was part of the original Kickstarter but did not receive mine until early this year. So by the time I got it they had worked out many of the software bugs. I’m 6 months I may have had to do a reboot once or twice at most.

I owned a nespresso a while back and this is light years ahead of that. Definitely not the same as a traditional espresso but I would not expect that as it’s not the same brewing methodology.

there are two main differences I find between what the Spinn produces and what a traditional espresso machine / coffee maker produces.

1. On the traditional coffee side - the texture of the coffee feels a little smoother / creamier. Hard to describe but it’s noticeable. It’s almost as if you have a splash of cream in there but without any flavor impact.

2. On everything it makes, espresso included, there is a little less acidic bite on the finish. I assume that this is due to the brewing method. I have done like for like testing so it is there.

I have not customized any of the brew recipes yet but I do plan on doing that in the future so maybe it will impact the above.

For what it is, I think it’s one of the best on the market at its price point.

[QUOTE=wru;18349840 So when you are getting to the end of your hopper load your grind is getting worse quality... it's meant to be run with a load of beans on top of it. This is what single dosing aims to solve, and Kafatek nailed it with a grinder that allows for perfection in the single dose approach. Therefore, you remove the need for column / hopper, and hence remove the degradation of beans from your list of issues.[/QUOTE]

Thank you for the great explanation.. I have never considered this, I single dose my hopper grinder. Perhaps I need to go Kafatek.. ugh.

I've been 2+ years on the rebuild, and while I didn't anticipate it taking that long, I have to say the diversion into milling my own lumber and timbers for the replacement garage has been a blast. Along the way I could have bought a couple more 911's for what I spent on capex for the milling business, but it's all about the overall toy box, right?

It all started with a lightning strike a mile from my property, mid-August 2020

My original garage was humble, only 20x20, but hand-cut Doug Fir timberframe built in 1991. Sad to see it go. It's remains in the background here.

The background to the right gives you a sense as to how hot and fast the fire came through. Everything incinerated except the house. Stroke of luck there.

County regs allowed +10% increase in size on fire rebuild, so I went from 20x20 to 15x29, with long axis parallel to the ocean. Took all of first year to get through design and County "emergency rebuild" permitting.

Bought a mill to take advantage of abundance of fire-killed Doug Fir and Redwood throughout the fire zone. Side-tracked me from wrenching my cars for a while!

And if you're going to mill logs, you need the proper tools, right? Most. Toys. Wins.

Built a couple solar kilns to dry the Doug Fir and Redwood. Fun science project!

1x8 tongue & groove redwood siding, after running it through a buddy's moulder. More than enough to side the new garage.

Given the compact footprint, I'll be installing a lift to fit my '01 996TT and '18 GT3. Current conundrum is two post or four. If I wasn't in the California coastal zone and socialist jurisdiction of Santa Cruz, I'd have built a much larger shop, but so it goes. We will be hand-cutting Doug Fir timberframe this fall, mostly 8x8, 8x10, 8x12, and probably not ready for first Porsche until next spring. Maybe then I'll have the floors and wall decor etc. like some of the amazing garages posted here. In any case, every step along the way has been enjoyable.
That is super cool. My family has been in the lumber business since 1927 with a small milling operation in Ga. We cut a lot of Western Red Cedar and Ponderosa Pine lumber currently that is sourced from Canada and the western US. This is amazing you did this project yourself especially with the weight of doug fir and redwood. Those redwood trees have a lot of moisture content but it sure does make some really pretty paneling when it is all finished. Keep us posted on this project. I can't wait to see it.

Just scrolled through all these pages. I am amazed how many 458's I saw accompanying P cars in these stunning Garages.

or cheat and put a full spice bottle on top of the bean column, in the throat of the grinder. this will simulate the weight above, and is how most of us cheated with the compaks until kafatek came along. Kafatek figured out how to get near zero retention with true single dose... it was designed purely for this purpose and is an unbelievably high quality piece of kit. Like (not Musk) aerospace level.

We’ve started Sunday night haircuts as a thing in the garage, think it’s time for a barber chair to replace the step stool haha.

I’ve got some wall art on the way, need to finish mounting the cabinets and I’ll be pretty close to done.

Sweet looking garage.

Nice autostacker. How do you like it?

We had our barber come to the house and do our haircuts on our back patio during the peak of COVID. Never again, no matter the precautions hair gets everywhere. Something to consider in your pristine garage.

I'm glad I went with it. It was only intended to be a storage lift and I didn't want to deal with the space that gets taken up with a 4 post. The only cars that aren't ideal for it are extremely low cars due to the approach angle required to get up on it. That being said, a GT3RS with FAL will work no problem, lowest car I was able to get on and off without boards was a GT350R (backed on and the front lip wold barely touch). All things considered, definitely a slick solution for storage with very few compromises.

Reminds me of haircuts with my dad back in the day. Nearly the same except no Cup for company and my being positioned within a small breeze of the compost pile.

Garage looks awesome!

Nice, glad to hear it's working out well. I had a HD9, autostacker just came out when I bought. Couldn't find any feedback at that point, too new.

Thinking of swapping or putting them in when we move.

Did you check out your pad depth?

Definitely get the wide model if you do. I did and wouldn't want it any more narrow than it is, particularly for parking underneath. Per the install specs, 4.25" 3000psi concrete so pretty basic. Any standard slab will support it fine, the nice part is you don't have 4 point loads on the slab, the base plates for the runners are very heavy and distribute the load well.
