Three things I took away from the EVO interview with AP-

The R is being built because mainly because of lots of complaining from the 997 GT3/RS owners who want a motor sports derived manual 911.

They do care somewhat about what their most passionate owners want in a car, which gives me hope that the GT cars will stay naturally aspirated.

In this interview as in others he mentions that he regularly reads the forums and is amused by our assumptions of what he's going to build, vs what he decides to build.

Agree.

It would be a shame if the motorsports division spent all this time to develop a 6 speed manual gearbox mated to a 4.0L engine, for this not to show up as an option for the 991 GT3 along with PDK-S.

I will also be disappointed if the 991.2 GT3 engine isn't a 4.0L NA engine.

Fixed it for you.

Car looks good. They finally figured out that colored leather shouldn't cover 100% of the interior. Hoping the trans is as tight as the 997 GT3 manual and doesn't employ water-down gimmicks like so many other "performance" manuals these days. Would still prefer a much sparser interior but hard to complain otherwise, except of course the price.

some lines out of the EVO vid with AP:

wild speculations from my side:
0:50 "new breed of GT cars" (whats the old breed of GT cars? is he speaking already about turbo?)
1:20 he is separating purists vs. track/laptime-rats (N/A vs. Turbo?)
2:10 "different route for track cars" --> PDK
11:20 question: the single mass flywheel is the same as in the RS?
14:50 “if the market WILL open wider” – 991.2GT is already in the pipeline if it should appear middle/end 2017...

why they should put the 4.0 in the “normal” 991.2GT3 if the top models (991.1RS and R) do have it. I can´t remember that any manufacture done it before – to put an “old” top engine in a new not top car. (please do not punish me - GT3 is also top - but now there are two models above...)

I'm of the opinion that the next GT3 will not be available with a manual transmission. The EVO video interview with AP seems to suggest that. Looks like they are setting up for a whole new model line...the R. I'm sure Porsche knows that the actual pool of people who will plunk down real money for manual is not many. Why not just make a limited production run to test and if successful, come out with the next iteration with the same formula? The GT3 and RS's will be to chase lap times...and the R for the well to do "purists". Each R gen will be made in "limited numbers". It's all very logical and very Porsche. I think it's a great move.

Oh yeah, I would love a GT silver R with green stripes please!

I didn't think I'd say this about a 991, but it looks amazing! Depending on the actual gearbox, this would be the only 991 I'd be interested in buying. Don't care about PDK and don't like their new manual gearbox. It has no feel. This has the potential to be a game changer.

But, due to the limited number produced I am not allowed to own one...

How about all the guys here that kept suggesting Porsche should raise its prices? They're priced too low is what we've heard!

Porsche listens

Looking at the PAG website and the R comes with 325 series tires also. Nice!
