Any GT3s around Downtown LA?
I've noticed a few 991 GT3s in downtown Los Angeles lately. Anyone here? Just wondering what your experiences have been with respect to needing the front lift kit, ground clearance, usability, etc.
For example, when entering the Citibank plaza parking structure, my Lotus rubs ever so slightly. Seen a GT3 in the same parking lot but curious if the car had front lift. Thanks in advance. |
I saw one parked at the Jonathan Club last week.
|
I'm there quite often.
I have the lift. Most parking structures are generally GT3 friendly, although there is one in the rear of the Library Tower that could be tricky sans lift. Never tried the Citibank tower, however. |
996 in DTLA...I see a few 991s and 997s driving around. Clearly I don't have front lift but I don't generally have a problem. Just gotta go sideways everywhere...
|
Thanks gents. I should have mentioned that I have an early slot for a GT4 and Porsche decided not to offer the lift for it. Hoping it works out for places I commonly visit...
|
I'm in an about downtown LA--no problems with GT3, but then again I always use the lift coming in and out of garages. If you think you see ipse dixit's car, but it has regular PDLS rather than LED headlights...it's me! :)
|
I have the guards red one in downtown. I use the lift everyday down here.
|
If you guys are around next Saturday night...they are airing the F1 race at Tom's Urban Tavern at LA Live...just a heads up.
|
Nice tip on the F1 race!
|
my car doesn't have lift and front lip can scratch a little once in a while but I'm totally fine with it. ground clearance is fine with me in dtla, only problem is the road quality.
|
That's true, there is so much construction going on right now in DTLA that once relatively smooth roads are now covered with steel plates. For the next nine months, an SUV is the best choice for DTLA. :D
If there is ever a GT3 meet in DTLA, I'd like to buy someone a beer in exchange for letting me try out the bucket seats! |

Is that a meet where nobody drives their car to the actual meet? ;)
I commend you guys for driving your GT3's to work. I've seen so many accidents and even gotten hit by idiots on the way to DTLA, that I'm traumatized. I used to drive my GT-R around, but I got a lot of attention from the people you don't want attention from. I'm down for a meet, but I'll bring my AMG in as that's my DD, or I'll walk from my office, lol. |
I take the fine LA Subway system every day to Universal City...cannot drive the GT3 daily

I use my GT3 as a daily and driving around Mid-Wilshire, WeHo, and DTLA makes you feel like you're trying to pacify a caged animal. In heat. |
I drove my white GT3 last Friday. I work next door to the JC. I use mine most of the time and the times I didn't I was ok but careful.

OK, maybe its because of my naturally demented nature, but I dig driving around even the more congested parts of LA in my GT3. Look at it like this. Who is having more fun? The guy in the lane to my right, sitting in his plush luxury car sending texts that only he thinks are important? Or maybe the woman in the lane to my left, who is doing her lashes at every light? Or me----trying to talk my caged wild beast down from the ledge at every light and every turn? Like I said, maybe it's just my demented nature... or perhaps I should have been an animal trainer!:)

DCT also helps ...you can just throw it in automatic ;)
It's like a work-out sitting in traffic with the 996 |

Ok, i'll give you this: driving down main near 4th where several of my fav restaurants are and revving it to 8k with my near-open exhaust LOL. It may be silver but that noise turns heads |

I set-off car alarms when I do that. Either parked cars on the street or in garages.
