The main potential complaint with this Porsche Track Precision solution is that the GPS data rate is too low (1 Hz from the phone, or 1 Hz from the car's GPS), compared to the 10 Hz or 20 Hz of the "professional" VBox systems.
Here ya go.. There are 3 images. 2 are of the data points and 1 is of the "lograte hz" error.. I put in1hz based on ur comment but the speed is way off.. I wasn't doing over 100mph on a 25mph road.. I think I was doing about half of that..

Thanks. What's the file format? Could you just post the data or link to the log file itself? I assume the position coordinates are embedded in the file along with time stamps showing the log rate.

.vbo you can also export in .csv and .kml or Porsche track precision app. Let me go over the file.. I just don't necessary want to post the logfile if it contains my vin#.

Sounds good. If you could export in CSV and then just paste some of the lines here we should be able to tell the logging rate for position (if it is in the file, that is).

However, it's not clear if data points are interpolated. Harry's lap timer interpolates data points, IIRC.

Yeah the 10 Hz data looks pretty decent. The car certainly has additional sensors (wheel speeds for example) that can help with interpolation over GPS alone.

Looking for the best way to mount the iPhone for video duties so that it can link / feed video to the track precision app. Have just ordered this setup:

http://www.optrix.com/store/roll-bar-xd5-bundle/

I got the cage mount but you can also get it for a dash or windscreen mount.

When I load the file at 10Hz it has the max rate of speed at 105mph.. Something is off.. I recall maybe doing like 65or so...

I think the units of the file are all SI (distances in meters, accelerations in m/s^2). Some rough calculations I made for one part of the file showed you driving at about 39 mph as a result.

I've been using the Optrix case and mount for my track bike, but I highly recommend Ram mounts for car window set ups. I've used the Ram mount option for a couple years mounted immediately below the rear view mirror with the iPhone in landscape mode. Note, both hardware setups were for use with the Harry's Laptimer software.
