straight swap GT3 for Turbo...

Met my friend tonite who has 991 GT3; he told me he has been offered straight swap - 991 Turbo for his GT3...... WTF!!?? Why would PAG do this if it was not a problem they would resolve in near future..... he has said NO WAY! This is NOT a loaner; straight swap.... and his car has 2000k on it.

991 Turbos depreciate faster than stale bread. Fact.

Unless the turbo is at 175 and he paid 150 for his GT3...Id stay away. Or take it for a month and then sell it.

When Joe Schmoe hears there's a problem with a certain model, he doesn't try to understand what happened. Maybe the 2014 GT3 will be tagged as a lemon. If this is the case, then resale value will plummet.

Look at the whole 996 gen. The problem on the early cars, watercooled and the fried eggs headlight has turn mr public against this car. Some even think that the 996 Turbo/GT3 have the same engine related problems. There are awesome deal for those who buy them used. Terrible deal for those who bought new.

I think the 991 GT3 2014 will be hard to resale with the current problems Porsche is having. Though it is very hard to tell at this point. I also believe that with equal tires, the Turbo is a faster car than the GT3. Add a tune and an exhaust, the GT3 won't know were the Turbo went. The drawback is a bit less involvement it seems, I haven't driven the new gen of either version so I have to rely on reviews.

If he can get a Turbo S for straight swap on a roughly ~$150k GT3, it may not be a bad deal. Drive the Turbo S for a year and get back into a '15 GT3 or GT3 RS when the car has been fixed and everyone and everything has settled down.

^^Id probably do this. I'd be curious what kind of incentive they would offer to keep us in the brand.

Who offered that - dealer or Porsche central office?

kosmo 03-05-2014 04:33 PM

i'd only do it if the Turbo S was like $25k more and get a top allocation for the RS.

They might swap for a regular Turbo, but not an S. I might take that.

Correct. It has to be a dealer deal. PCNA would not be trading cars impinging on dealer business.

Yep not too mention that it could end up being the entire production!

I suspect the dealer has another customer who wants a 3 ... and is willing to eat the cost ...

Indeed. No matter how the tone of things "appear" on RL, it doesn't represent the world at large. Even with this issue and it's eventual resolution, the lines are not getting any shorter for this car.

exactly, if my dealer called me today with a build allocation for a 991 I would have no hesitation (due to the current issues) in accepting it!

The GT3 for Turbo swap happened in Dubai. It's probably not a good indicator of what PCNA or a US dealer will do.
