Issue with BMC filters

Ordered a set of BMC filters, part #FB709/01 for the RS and proceeded with the install this morning as part of the 2 year service.

first thing I noticed when I took the airbox cover off was that the original filters have a black rubber piping along the perimeter of the filter — while the new ones are all red. When I put the new ones on, they did fit, but not as snuggly as the original ones.

the same part number is referenced by several reputable vendors as the correct filter for the 991 GT3/GT3RS. Has anyone experienced the same issue?

I think the below photo more clearly shows the difference between the original and new model. Thing is even the BMC site lists FB709/01 as the correct part number for a 991 GT3RS

...and here’s a photo of the new filter installed (top photo) showing a gap on the inner side...versus the original which is tight and snug.

Looks like the new ones are defective. No way I'd run them.

No way I would run that... Sketchy.

It looks like the gasket is missing. Would send back for sure.

Where did you buy them from? If you put this set on your car is going to eat a lot of dirt. The sealing on the sides should be flush. Return them back.

This part was it ordered from a Porsche dealer or a parts supplier?

You should probably use the black trim of the old filter on the new one. It’s there for sealing.

On mine it's glued on. I'm wondering if that's somehow a counterfeit filter. My replacement looked identical to the original, right down to the mold marks and numbers.

Is this bmc part or a Porsche part? That could be the difference

audiophilitis 11-06-2020 10:11 AM

Bought the BMC from an online retailer — the gasket is glued on and cannot be reused. Interesting is the BMC part number on the set I bought is what’s listed in the BMC site (below)

https://www.bmc-air-filter-shop.com/...17-to-2018.htm

Anyway, I went ahead and bought another set — $633 from the dealer (versus $170 online).

where did you buy your replacement filter?

My understanding is the BMC filters in the RS are reusable/washable filters, although the non-RS GT3's have paper filters that are not reusable The RS filters are designed to be cleaned and reoiled prior to reinstallation, similar processes to cleaning a dirt bike air filter. You can check on online/YouTube for cleaning/oi products to use as well as instructions. It is a bit time consuming to clean them and they can take a while to dry, a lot of folks buy an extra set so they can take their time cleaning them and rotate between the two sets giving you plenty of time for the filter to dry and the oil to set in between changes. Hope this helps.

Here is a link for cleaning instructions from BMC's YouTube channel.
