Wood Shift Knob Fitted

When speccing my Touring I had requested a CCX wooden shift knob.
Exclusive said it would have looked much like the standard leather/faux aluminum item where the faux aluminum is replaced by wood. Not very inspiring especially when I was looking for a 917 style/solid wood item.

Anyway I decided to have my own version made. Designed to sit at the same height, it's perfect.
It's a play on the balsa wood 917 item but stained to match the cabin. Additionally the neck is milled aluminum, none of this faux stuff. It’s got a heft to it that the standard item lacks.

Dead easy to install and the wood feels great to the touch in any season.
Doesn't fit the RS ;)

I don't know what the other lighter wood is, I'll ask.
Here is my engineered drawing.
The groove at the base was designed to accept the boot, in reality the boot sits at the base of the machined post. (see photo)
Having not disassembled the boot/knob prior I was unsure how it would work. In a version 2 I would just shorten the post & remove the groove. (the knob would still sit at the same height as the cars shift mechanism sits within the new shaft.

Thanks for the compliments all.

Here is the contact for the guy who makes these. porsche356sport@yahoo.com – Manuel.

He’s in Mexico, quality is top draw, but do select Expedited shipping.

I’m going to draw a V2 with a couple changes;
  • · The neck will be 1/8” thicker
  • · And no grove around the base.

Having fitted the item it needs a few aesthetic changes. Frankly it’s ‘fine’ as is. I’m pedantic.

Feel free to reach out to Manuel but if you wait a few days I’ll redraw this item.

Manuel offers different woods, and can customize the color of the shift pattern.

PS it’s dead easy to fit, three minutes max and can be switched back asap.

<$300

I take it one could go with a shorter shaft for shorter throw still?

Final fitment, this thing is perfect. This will be the best $300 you'll spend on your Porsche. Tactile and adds to the rifle bolt feel! (No need to change my original drawing).
Did I mention - dead easy to install!

That looks great! Just emailed him :typing:
