2019 GT3RS or GT3 Touring?
Hey guys, I'm new to this section of the forum. I have an allocation (I think) from Champion and have a GT3RS on order scheduled for January delivery. I'm having some second thoughts about the GT3RS and am possibly thinking about searching for a GT3 Touring instead. I definitely like how the Touring is more subtle and the manual transmission. I feel like it will be a better street car to enjoy. I will most likely not be tracking either car, I'd get something more of a beater for that. Would love to get peoples input who have spent a good amount of time in both.
Obviously the money is different and the GT3RS is maybe more rare? But this really isn't about the money, it's about the enjoyment factor of driving on the street and not looking like a douche. :) |
First of all, are you sure you got an allocation? There is a scam going at the dealership you are referring to. |
hahahahahahahha

I hope your sales Guy is not Shiraaz.

Based on what you're looking for, the Touring sounds like the right car. I have almost 7,000 miles on mine and absolutely love it. You really can't push the car 10/10's on the street (unless you want to go to jail), so if you're not going to track it, go subtle. The Touring get's some attention, but not too much.
|
I'll trade you my Touring for your RS :)
|
You might test drive a Turbo S....you sound a lot like I did a few months ago and I switched from GT3 to TTS for some of the reasons you state..
|
You want attention get the RS
You want stealth get the touring Let’s face it, if tracked few will be able to extract 100% out of either of these cars |
Kind of funny...I’m in the same boat leaning towards a RS...I bought a regular gt3 in 2007...then regretted it until Trakcar convinced me to buy Moody’s GT3RS i still own the RS to this day, will never sell it on the other hand a touring is a good daily....for a GT3. RS brings attention...but has enough difference the soul is more raw agsin I have trakcar in my ear telling me to buy RS...I’ll probably follow suit so someone can re-open DE Cup southeast ill daily my defender I guess lol |
Based on your description, touring is the correct car for you. Touring cars should hold their value better than a tts imho, if that even matters to you. |
First of all, yes I do think I have my allocation as he wasn't my salesman and my deposit went to a different account.
As much as I respect the TTS it's not the car for me. It's really between a GT3RS and a GT3 Touring for me. The funny thing is there is no more allocation for the GT3 at Champion so I can't switch my RS to a GT3 Touring. I was thinking if one popped up there (they have a red one there now but red kind of defeats the purpose of the Touring to me) I think they would let me change cars. |

My dealer offered me a GT3RS as for some reason they thought that was my eventual goal, I declined as my use is 100% street and I like three pedals and I would prefer not to stand out (if I got a GT3RS or GT2RS it would be in black and the wing would be a shelf in my house, not on the car). its all about what YOU want. While I am sure the cars feel similar, they look very different and the whole PDK v. 6MT. |

I'm sure I'd get used to it :). I just don't like having to downshift 3 gears to hit some power on the highway. |
GL with your search. There are few good tourings on the market.
|
I’d love to drive both but that’s just not an option unfortunately. I’ve seen a few GT3 touring for sale but imagine how hard or impossible to get my deposit back from Champion! Lol |
Are you getting your RS at MSRP? If so, I have a Touring for sale. Sell it to you and will buy your RS. im serious. Pm me if you want to discuss further. |

I had a winged 991.2 GT3 manual for 2400 miles and am now at 600 miles on the .2 3RS.
For 100% road use, the GT3 hands down, largely because of the more compliant suspension. All the other differences are secondary, IMHO, when it comes to DD the car. I could easily DD my manual GT3 but the RS suspension beats me up a bit for drives on less than perfect roads. |
I’ll probably get flamed for suggesting this but you can always remove the wing and uprights of the RS if you’re just puttering around town for that subdued look...but I think color selection is just as important if you want to draw less attention. |

I did not get it at MSRP but I did get a pretty good deal as far as ADM goes. There are no more GT3 allocations at Champion this year so I can't change my order. I was told this is the last .2 3rs allocation but I find that hard to believe.
PAG is ramping up full steam on the 992. Any further RS production will only be throughout 2nd Q 2019 |

RS for sure over touring! |
Can’t go wrong with either. I turned down two allocations for an RS from my local dealership as I wanted the 6MT with the 9k rpm motor. YMMV. |

Does anyone have an idea on how easy / difficult it is to remove the rear spoiler on the RS?

I wouldn't trade my Touring for a 3RS but only because the manual transmission was important to me. If the 3RS offered the manual it wouldn't require a second thought and I'd probably have one already.
|
I say Touring for your needs...also because the .2RS is much more rigid and ball jointed than .1 ... so not exactly what you’d want from a backroads carver. So did you have recent new allocations for the RS in the US? When did you put down your deposit if I can ask? |

very easy! As I recall three torx heads per side. I believe somebody makes a triangular cover plate you can put on where the upright mounts to the deck lid to finish the ends. The ends are not finished very nicely under the up rights. You will want some help so you don’t drop it. |
