I believe PCNA and PCL maintain a "non-public" database that is for dealers to code options correctly. Vin Analytics and PORS9 are able to look to that database to pull build codes.
I've seen cases of missing VIN's, but never a "wrong" VIN I don't believe. There is a MSRP discrepancy depending on CXX (potentially a few other options codes as well) as there is no standard option pricing for the CXX code, so whatever CXX is on the build sheet does not get added to the MSRP in the VIN database. PTS pricing however, is included, as it's a standard price with separate code.
I think there should be another database of validated VINs per owners, as my Porsche Germany contacts repeatedly dismiss as fluff but seems legit in my eyes. They claim the numbers and vins werent all produced.

That seems to make sense for the CXX options and the discrepancy to the MSRP. So some of these MSRPs in the high 370-390s, may actually be a lot higher based on what added CXX options were added. The sky is the limit there for CXX options. Thanks for the clarification.
Bought a new set of calipers and had them matched to the Oak Green Exterior paint of the car...love how it turned out (plus have the originals drained and plugged, and boxed up).
Wish the factory offered matching calipers. A great change, to my eye.
