Aftermarket bucket seats

I'm looking at making my 991.1 gt3 more of a safe DE toy, pulling the stock lwb seats, and bagging them for later resale to cut down on wear/tear.

Have any of you guys done this and if so how heavy are the stock seats vs what you installed (seats, mounts, belts, hardware)

I'm assuming I'll have an airbag warning light if I remove the stock seats? If so can this be defeated or switched off by a dealer? I have heard of some cars deploying all the bags or doing funky stuff when the airbag system has been tampered with. I don't want to create another unsafe situation, by trying to add more safety to the car.

Yes I'll be installing a proper harness bar, belts w/ sub, and buying a Hans.

My other thought was a used Cup car, but that's a whole other can of worms.

I pulled stock seats and installed
Recaro Profi's - Leather sides and bolsters
Cantrell Roll Bar
6 pt Shroths
Dummy Seatbelt inserts of the retained 3pts for the street.

The airbag light cannot be turned off.

How heavy are the stock lwb seats/rails?

Can the dummy seat belt buckle be purchased anywhere?

Thx for the info

Both have been covered in posts on here. Have you looked in junkyards, on ebay, etc?

Contact 311rs, he is on this site, here is his website: 311RS, he will be able to get you all set up with aftermarket seats, and any need hardware to get all the fault codes defeated, or tell you how to do a perfect installation.

I asked 311RS if they do in fact have a way to defeat the airbag light and they told me they don't. There is only one person who has claimed they can defeat the airbag light, but it has to be done in-house. He is actually a member here, Sprchng. He posted it in this thread here: https://rennlist.com/forums/991/9958...2-project.html

I got these dummy plugs off eBay and they work like a charm: https://www.ebay.com/itm/191877472905

Yes for a 991. See post #9 in the link I posted. The OP claims he has it figured out. I would contact him directly.

ahh, my mistake, I’ve seen a few of his cars and they are top notch, thought he may have had a way.

Raucky 06-30-2018 05:21 PM

Perfect thx guys. Please tell me there is just an airbag light and no chimps/bell sounds, after the factory seats are removed.

mooty 06-30-2018 08:59 PM

^ no chime just light

Would black electrical tape work here? Or are other function alarms in the same space?

I ordered a set from 311RS, took several months passed initial timeline, leather was great but the contractor he used to stitch them up didn't have the proper equipment, had to have them redone with piping to hide the seams as all the thread was exposed and pulling.

Rick GT3 01-13-2021 10:47 PM

Just finished mounting the Recaro Profi SPG seat with BBi seat base and Schroth 6 point camlock harness on my GT3.
I had read many post regarding delete airbag light after installing aftermarket seat/harness and would like to know if anyone had found the correct resistor instead of using black tape:icon501:
Any advice is appreciated.
