.2GT3RS speculation/information thread.

Several mentions here of the .2 RS having a manual option. Given the pdk for track, manual for street mantra from AP, why do people think they will offer the RS in a manual? It seems highly unlikely to me.

Been thinking.
The GT3RS really needs more TQ or needs to be regeared.
Part of the speed of going to 19” is the smaller diameter rear tire.
I mean a regeared breathed-on manual GT4 on smaller rears can pull me in some corners because it’s the same TQ, less weight.
So Porsche needs to either make it lighter, fit more reasonable size rear tires, regear a lot for lower top speed OR go bigger displacement.
So maybe bigger then 4.0 is actually easier, cheaper to produce then all the above..
Just GT2RS Tires and a 9000RPM 4.0 won’t do enough to make it faster then a GT3 and a GT3 already will have trouble keeping up with the ever faster turbo non GT cars because TQ.

I too have been thinking long about this subject...we really need more torque out of low speed or uphill corners where my GT4 or GT3, even dropping down to 2nd gear, lags behind American V8's or V10's...of course we catch them under braking and mid-corner/apex, then full-on-gas , after rotation at the apex gets weight over the GT3 rear wheels and BOOM.... but still, an extra 50-75 ft-lbs would erase that gap.

The Manthey RS with 918 tyres (supposedly eco) and no powertrain mods is already faster than the .2 gt3. If you look at the ring laps in detail, the minimum corner speeds of the gt2rs are way faster than the .2 gt3 on the fast corners (flugplaz/schwedenkreuz etc). There's plenty that can be done to make the .2 3rs considerably faster than the gt3 without even doing much to the engine (and my bet is still 525hp 4.0litre)...

Would a 4.2 be capable of revving past 9k? Would it really provide a boost in torque that was tangible over a 4.0? Besides adding electric front motors for torque fill or turbos I think the NA is strapped with lower torque.

Highly likely - Porsche will charge more to justify some minor tweaks. I was told awhile back there will be a manual 3RS how many no clue.

I'd probably try to get an RS if they offer a manual, but I'm not giving up my current 3 allocation on speculation. Won't be cheap either, my guess is base will be ~195K......ouch. But RS tho.....

Agreed I think Porsche are going to try to get there or slightly below with the rs. The 997 2RS was 7:18 vs 7:26 for the 4.0RS, or perhaps more relevant the 3.8RS at 7:32 given the power difference. If (big if obviously) the same gaps are maintained now the new car is there or about 7 flat....

Im with you, argument is that the areo, tyres, suspension etc of the 3RS looks pretty close to 2RS.. weight, HP and torque then are difference. Also the time difference between gt3 and the Rs, previous generation?. Wouldn't be surprised if cracks 7:00 and finds the extra 12 secs..

Heard it awhile back everything that I was told seems to be fact now. Porsche changes their mind often - but they do like easy money and charging for a manual when a PDK costs more is a money grab.
These cars are purpose built why someone would want a slower car let alone Porsche offering a slower car amazes me.
Mine is for sale as it's too hard to work with Porsche if you aren't of the "select" 2011 RS's PTS mid 2's so maybe I just keep it and call it quits with Porsche I'm not ever going to push a street car hard on or off track.
