Default McLaren 720 vs. well any Porsche GT car

Wow. Carbon fiber tub. 3100 lbs. 710hp. Evidently amazing ride and visibility. I have been reading some really extraordinary reviews of this car. $285K is a little more than a Porsche GT car, but....is it time to finally buy a McLaren?

The new 720s is a beast no doubt, but it will never capture the raw feeling you get from a Porsche GT car. Still, why not have both ?

If you have the money get both. If you can only get one, then get the Porsche GT car which is much more raw and more fun to drive.

Also, given their incredible power to weight ratio, Mclarens achieve surprising poor lap times compared to other supercars as Mclarens are undertired and brakes are notably inferior to Porsches.

I used to have a 650S which is probably pretty similar to the 720. It was till this day the best car I've ever had (but not the most fun or exciting.) I always felt like I was driving a futuristic robot thingy. Kind of like the feeling of driving a Tesla S — encumbered, filtered. Eventually sold it and have now had a GT4 for over a year, and would I have to pick again, I'd go with the GT4 any day of the week. It gives me so much more pleasure on track and up in the mountains, always there with new challenges and just enough power to always be enough but never too much.

If I had the space and money I'd be interested in a 570 GT as a daily driver, to supplement the P-GT cars.

Amazing, I've actually done exactly the same. Had a 650s for a year, enjoyed it, but didn't love it after a while. Bought a GT4 for the manual, kept them side by side for a few months and every time I had time to drive "for fun", I picked the GT4. So 650s is gone.

Funny how people are different i sold the gt4 within 3 months as I knew I would never take it for a fun drive compared to the 12c nevermind the 4.0 as manual box apart the gt4 for me did absolutely nothing better than the 12c (apart from lowing track running costs on consumables) and felt really detached which was a disappointment given it was supposed to be a GT car.

Will be selling the 12c soon for reasons unrelated to the way it drives and I know I'd miss it a whole lot more than the gt4 which I would never have bought if I were allowed to have a test drive first before having to confirm the order.

Never had the chance to drive one but from a distance there's a lot to like about the MacLaren. I want to see some people tracking them regularly before I get serious about considering one as an alternative to a GT car. For the most part my GT cars have been highly reliable as trackable street cars which is what I like (drive to track, pound car, drive home, wash, head back to track in a week or two). Not sure MacLaren is an alternative to that. But if it is, I'm interested.

The 675LT delivers the performance of the 720 with the fun-to-drive factor of a Porsche GT car.

720S will melt a lot of minds with it's sheer speed and fluidity. Other than 918/P1 type cars nothing can hang with its real world road speed.

Personally, I still don't quite the comparisons of a sports car (GT3, etc.) vs. a supercar (720S, 675LT); it is comparing apples to oranges in my mind.

All day long the 720S/675LT are superior cars when talking numbers/track days/out right speed; but when speaking of fun the GT cars provide some of the best dollar-dollar fun, but by no means are in the same category from my perspective.

Get both is my advice for those debating.

Got an allocation at Mac of Boston and will be trading my 458 in for hopefully Spring 2018 delivery....going to test drive one as soon as they have a demo in a week or two....I was going to get rid of both and go to one sports car with 2 little kids now but honestly do not want to give up the GT3....it's just a lot of fun and even with not as much time behind the wheel as I would like the low depreciation make its a keeper....I think for the money I would be upset with myself for selling it....
