Forewarning: this is based on the market in Australia.

I used to have a 997.2 GT3, which I loved and not sure I really feel the same about my 991 RS. I've done just over 3000 miles, a few track days, no doubt it's quick but it's very easy to get the lap times out of the car, it's a much better car, but not sure if the experience is better.

Recently there has been a 997.2 RS come up, it's PTS Black/red, and only done about 2000 miles, it looks to have sat with 3 different collectors over the past 6 years. We only got 45 of the 997.2 RS, PTS even rarer still

I've been in touch with the dealer and can do almost a straight swap into the car. Just really can't decide if I should. I can't afford to have both...

I do miss the old car but part of me feels strange going backwards.

Has anyone where bought a collectible low mileage car and then put lots of miles on it? I tend to drive mine to stupid places like the local supermarket...

I think the whole low mileage thing is overvalued in these forums (or in USA?). Would you have a girlfriend and not...

Cannot give advice, but can tell that a friend of mine sold right now his 991.1 GT3 RS (got one of the first ones, did drive around 30k km of track days and road trips), because he wants to go back to a 997.2.

At the same time many are changing from a 997.2 to a 991.

I can't go back, unless way back to 964.
It's also cost, I like to drive a lot and so cars with heavy track duty I want to be warrantied.

I can understand that too, this one is from a Porsche dealer so it has the extended warranty that we can pay to extend up until the car is 10 years old.

I had a BLK PTS 997.2 RS. IMO my 991.1 RS is a better car. Faster, handles better, more comfortable and just the PDK is brilliant. The old RS is a hair shirt by comparison. It is a manual and a super stiff clutch.

From a US market perspective:

Recent .2RS PTS with low miles have sold here for crazy amounts of money. I think they are very special cars and the world will concur over time.

Given where 991RS prices are it feels like a no brainer even if your plan is to drive it.

Personally I prefer the 991RS but if the experience you want is the 997 I would do it.

I agree with CJ that the 997rs is a more personal and rewarding car.
The 991rs you can flog around racetracks and put miles on without thinking to much about value.
Would be harder for me to do that with a 2000 mile 997.2rs (very rare car especially PTS)
Once you start worrying about value it puts a dent in the enjoyment. Ask me how I know.
You cant really go wrong.

I've owned both and IMO I would not go back. It's easy to remember the great days of the old girlfriend and quickly forget the shortfalls. The 991 is a better car all around but likes and dislikes are always someones opinion. Here in the States a 991 is worth more so I would not do an even trade and if a dealer is willing to do it, it should raise a red flag. My 997.2 was my favorite car until my 991.1 showed up.

I currently own both - gun to my head I would probably keep the 997.2 rs.

The new car is fantastic - but I think it will be a trade for the 991.2 RS.

I have not driven either, but based on my experience with the garden variety GT3 to me the 997.2 RS is the one. But in the states, the 991 RS is going for more money, especially PTS. So you are trading 1 for .9 imo.

For me it would come down to...do you prefer a manual or the pdk...both are amazing cars.

The more I push the 991RS the more I like it...it's truly an amazing car.

To me the 991 has the edge in that you can drive it more...whether as a beast on the track, as a mountain road carver or sitting in traffic heading to work...997 gets old sitting in traffic really fast.

Interesting question and one I'm asking myself right now . I'm selling my low spec 991 RS which to me was a perfect build , but the 997 .2 might be a good fit for me if I could find the right color and radio delete etc . The progression from the .1 to the 991 RS expands out to include a lot more technology with the .1 being very close to a regular GT3 and the .2 adding some more displacement and carbon fiber . Once you get to a 991 it almost seems like a space ship with the carbon nose , mag roof , 4.0 , PDK-S , etc . Maybe that middle ground would work for you - starting to think it would for me .

If it is the engagement/involvement you are missing from a Manual then trade you RS for a new .2 GT3 and pocket some money and buy your Wife some thing nice
