steve and raj are crazy. the most i put on is

long bib
arm warmers
base layer
jersey
vest

if i can't hold heat that way, i go back in bed hahaha

steve, did you say baklava.....
you know ur dessert... (i often confuse desert and dessert.. my daughter told me. daddy you always eat more than one dessert, so the one with more "s" is the food)

i night ride on MTB long ago. to SEE (which is different than TO BE SEEN) you need 1000 lumen or so

I purchased this kit from Performance Bicycle. More than sufficient for my use. Battery lasts a while as well.

my two cents on batteries. its not fancy schmancy , its not about weight, its maybe about a simple efficient system, but the # 1 things light are about is BATTERY and LUMENS> you spend to little on a cheap sysetm or one without the lumens or volts, you could pay the price with a massive wreck or your life. i train 5, 6 days a week in the 5am range and i want to see as much road as possible for the longest stretch without my battery fritzing out. potholes, limbs down from rain or wind, squirrels, deer, cars seeing me.

i used to ride Lupine as some of the nicest and brightest and lightest units around. but they got flakey a few years ago.
for headlamaps, right now, the best units i think are the exposure units. i ride with a MaxxD. its all contained battery and lense in one unit. easy to snap on and off. very nice programmability. 3 levels with a push of a button while riding . and then like 10 settings as to how much juice to consume on high level mid low. ive been using them for 2 years, never a flaw. nice charger. not too expensive. pretty light.
that maxxd let sme run on high for 2 1/2 hours wich right about now is my full ride and its often dark or darkish the entire 2 1/2.

for rear lights. i know a lot of folks like the USB stuff. i dont . Nite Rider makes a cherry bomb which takes 2 x AAA. i can keep the AAA in my riding bag, i often ride from my car from my local gym parking lot since i showe there, but even if i rode from home, and the usb was dead, forgot to charge, you just pop in 2 more batteries and you're 100% golden.

cant stress lights enough. i never screw around without lights. sometimes guys show up at 6am without lights and its 15 minutes till sunrise. its dangerous. you look oer your shoulder descending, you cant see them if they are 10 feet behind you.

cycling is wicked fun. great exercise but like car racing...rule#1...do everything possible to come home in one piece safe and ready to enjoy doing it again. check out exposure lights and those cherry bomb rears. they are pretty solid.

nothing beats this stuff. just be careful where you point it. very easy to blind oncoming cars.

3 degree C, 30 km/hr winds, on/off drizzle with a bit of snow mixed in.....I said why not go for a ride. Only did 2 hours, but it felt great. Guess I'm now hooked on cold weather riding.
