and that horizon is likely still quite a way off at this point. though that RS at Merit is tempting.
I know the owner of the RS, it's the cheapest and one of the best out there.

i'll take your car out for a nice drive in the hills and down to the ocean.

edit: oh, and i've driven a good amount of the infamous loop.
the stretch of road going from Hwy 1 up to the bridge that has been in many pictures here was much bumpier than i expected.
and that was in a stock 997.2 GT3
hahaha, I cannot divulge the water pumpers I am hoarding in fear of driving up prices.

When I was following mooty, I had two conflicting thoughts:

1. He looks like kevin costner in that old movie where a dude jumps into a storming ocean to save other dudes - it's that chaotic and scary (all the sliding happened below the speed limit because his tires looked older than grand canyon). But it was so beautiful.

2. If I do not punt him off the road or pass him otherwise, his rich-running carbs will make me throw up the tasty carbs I had for breakfast all over my pristine contrast-stitch interior, and it will be so ugly.

Anyway, it ended well. This was such a memorable trip even though nothing major went wrong.

Mooty you are an enigma. Your the only guy on RL that would take a 914 out on a 600? mile trip with handful of 3s and RSs. No not the 4.0, not the GT, not any other wicked car from your RS barn, but a 914... Bravo sir. Thanks for keeping it real. RL wouldn't be the same without you.

Mooty and our other friend in the 73 911 are def. the most hardcore... the rest of us had AC and sound deadening LOL.

I dunno, you think my RS is louder than your 914!?!?! might be a draw!

Agree 100%. My last road trip, before I sold 4S, was up to the Smokies and back with my twin brother in tow in an Sti. 2000 miles up and back. Its a trip we will try to reproduce again and again as the years go by.

Keep driving, eating and blowing out the carbons my friends, life is short.

I still remember four wheel drifting my 04 Range Rover chasing the Ferrari guys on a drive after I sold my 250 GTE. Honestly, the rr was about as fast as the 250 on aged out tires.

You had a 250 GTE? You need to post some pics. Those old Ferrari 250’s are special!
