Torx size for removing the 991 GT3 RS wing? Wing removal tips?
I plan to do a track lap time comparison of the RS with wing and without wing. I want to see how different it feels as well, not just numbers.
My question is this:
What torx tool / size do I need to remove the wing? Is it 6 bolts? Any other steps needed to remove it? Does anyone have instructions with pictures? I searched but could not find...
Really looking forward to trying the test this weekend! I will take video as well.

I had my dealer remove my RS wing when I first bought my car about 9 months ago. In doing so, one of the receiver nuts torqued out of the wing. When it was put back on by the dealer for my first track day, the receiver was re-glued into the wing. Hasn't been off since.

Hi Sirtom
The 3 countersunk-head 6x25 screws on each side are Resistorx TT30. Porsche part number is 999.073.510.01
[edited: I used T30 as that's what I had - Don't have T27 if that's a better fit. Please check.]
Have a friend support the wing as you remove the bolts. Use a few towels around the lid for bump protection. Start with the ones toward the front as you need the lid open for those. Then close the lid and loosen the vertical pair on the back. With your friend back them out with wrenches or fingers at the end - no metal in hand - at the same time to release the wing vertically and get it then heck away from the $17,000 lid cover without a scratch.
See my post #15 in this thread:

There have been a few people that have had the innermost (front most) nutserts come out with the bolt on one or both sides. Seems that the glue used to hold the nutsert to the lid gets on the threads.
The factory bolts come with a band of blue Loctite on them, so it's intended to stay put. My advice if you try it yourself would be to use a longer handled wrench to apply a quick breaking torque (but gentle - it's carbon fiber) to test the lock of those bolts before backing them out any more than 1 full turn.
If it doesn't feel like the bolt is turning clean in the threads - meaning it feels as if the nutsert is turning also - then take it to your dealer for their certified Porsche body shop to remove and re-anchor the insert under warranty. IMHO, it is a defect in their manufacturing process that they splattered glue all over the body of the bolt.
Post up some pictures!
Are you going to try the "R" undertray diffuser?

Should be interesting, be extremely careful. Removing the GT4 wing came up last week- I covered some of what to expect in the link below. The RS will be 2x as bad:

You're going to need two hands just for the bolts (one on each side) so make sure you have at least one person if not two people helping you. I did this to put my CF wing on and between dropping bolts or having the wing slide down and fall somewhere on the car, it's definitely not something I recommend doing on your own.

You are obviously braver than i am. I hope the track isn't the ring.

Thank you very much ezinternet, Petevb, and everyone for the detailed responses! I have what I need now and am ready for the weekend.
I certainly will, especially in higher speed turns. I will ease into those and make sure I have a good feel for it.
I'm curious how much of the cars grip is truly aero vs mechanical.
Atlanta Motorsports Park - AMP, ~140 mph top speed.
I'll take it to Barber next.
Only issue is possible rain this weekend, which wouldn't give me the type of comparison test I want. We will see.

Does anyone know if the 911R has the same front splitter as the RS?
If so, I'd feel more comfortable taking the rear wing off of the RS without re-balancing the aero on the front end (per advice here on the GT4: https://rennlist.com/forums/gt4/9900...l#post14182214)

"The front bumper is straight GT3, but uses a new and smaller lip to balance the aero due to the 911R's lack of a rear wing."
You could consider pulling the front splitter entirely?

I haven't had the RS there yet. A good friend of mine (aka 'The Stig' from Merit Partners) may join this weekend to test the RS for the most consistent results with and without wing. He has done 12,000 laps at AMP. He said that driving a 2015 GT3 (non RS) he would be in the 1:27's at about 135 mph. That's all out for him in a stock car. His best time was 1:25.3 in a GT4 Clubsport.
