Default OT: Hybrid system for 992 is dead

Not read this before so apologies it I missed it. It's good news for the next 911. I was always worried about the weight a hybrid system woul bring to the car when most of us are seeking less weight not more.

Agree it's good news. Glad that Porsche realized the extra weight isn't worth the cost to the driving dynamics, although it also sounded like finances played a large role too. Profit margin is much higher on a turbo than a complicated hybrid.

That is good news. Maybe 5 years from now when batteries are more powerful, and much lighter.

Pretty disappointment to hear this - means the 992 is going to be a long way behind. 720 tub is designed to add hybrids to it.

It would have been great to have a NA/hybrid RS option as a real alternative to turbo charging, even bumping up to the 2 RS performance level. Using a ultra lightweight F1/919 style KERS setup it probably would weigh about the same as the 2 RS. F1 battery weight is only 20kg.

This is definitely not good news. Evolving with the times is how to keep ahead. I would have loved to see an NA hybrid 911 model. Shame -if- it's true and I'm not convinced it is.

I don't think this is good news, either. I have no interest in a hybrid 911 personally, however if it allows for more naturally aspirated GT cars, I'm all for it.

NOT good news at all. How on earth are we going to be able to keep up performance wise ? The day that the GT cars will all be turbo has just gotten closer. Screamer NA block with electric torque fill is so much more interesting than the blown alternative ! Granted the GT cars are in a class of their own with no real competitors as a total package ... but performance wise ...

In the article it says, 992 will come 2018 as 2019 model, earlier then some think, but it could be true ...

- 991.2 GT3 build time is probably not later then August 2018, because then Euro 6b pollution allowance for the car will be lost and after that it is not allowed to sell it as a new car.

- Then there is a also there also the 991.2 GT3 RS coming sooner as some aspect.

Which all fits together that production of the 992 could start after production holidays 2018 in Q4/2018.

What others do think ?
