Red face

Great drive and amazing car! Thanks for posting.

Back in the day when I was racing in the VLN, I did an 8:05 BTG tourist drive in my 996.2 GT3 CS. We had to raise the suspension because it would bottom out in Fuchsrohre at full petal. A friend of mine who was a much better driver (placed 6th in 24hr in a BMW GTR) did 7:45 BTG in his 996 GT3. Now look at the times being posted. Evolution adding up to revolution!

you are right Christian.

But also the track is now faster.
around 10 sek i would guess - compared with 15 years ago.

Sub7 should be possible with a perfect aligned + new TrofeoR stock 991 GT3 RS without codriver and half tank.

Yes, the track is a bit faster, but it also depends on how you drive it. Being old school I don't use all the curbs that have been installed the last 5 years or so. (Which also saves the car.) If you stick to the tarmac surface, the track is only a couple of seconds faster now, even with the 2016 mods imho. The old school line only uses the curbs at exit Fuchsrohre and the right hander in the esses of Wipperman.

What probably makes a bigger difference is the evolution of tires. And the inclusion of electronic nannies perhaps.

I've booked my annual trip for end of August and can't wait!

Already had posted that video, that car and lap, should have been a sub 7 lap (car at the end, if it had new tires and no passenger). The geezer that did the lap on that was the same geezer that did the 991.2 gt3 record lap.

Car has the Manthey kit, just unsure on the KW suspension.
The owner did a 7:12 alone in the car.

I'd say that after driving the 997.1 GT3 and the 991.1 GT3 RS back to back the modern car is a much safer car to drive thanks to suspension, stability and PDK.

Safer->Faster At least in my book

Daniel coached one of my friends recently. Mostly in rain.
When returning after being driven by DS in the wet he stated that DS is just plain crazy.

To add to that: I consider my friend crazy when he is on track

To be honest, not that is a contest, I would be scared to drive around as a passenger with Fabio Francia, of all, he is just plain fearless, he is almost as crazy as rally drivers.

I'm not a nordschleife expert... but something is up with this video if this is claiming it covered the same course the 991.2 GT3 did 7:12 in...

Look at the top speed... 50kmh LESS than the GT3..

Maybe this is another configuration, and not trying to compare apples to apples, which is fine.

Best Regards,
Dave

BTG = Bridge to Gantry. Not a full lap. I've never been there, but I think this is about 20-25 seconds shorter than a full lap. TRAKCAR or KOBALT can confirm.

i never ride along. dying as a passenger is a big fear for me. i am always in the driver's seat; and never like to take passengers.. don't want to be responsible if something happens.
