Default GT3 - Buy 2015 or pay $15-20K more for 2016

Interested in opinions - all other things being equal -

I'm buying a GT3 in the next month or so. Quick question. Go with the 2015 and if the misfire issue happens just have it fixed under warranty and move on OR pay $15 -$20K more and get a 2016 with the updated heads etc. Hopefully avoid the issue and hope it retains the $20K differential when I trade in 18 months from now on .2?

Thanks
Jeff

I'd go with the 2016. I think the 2016 models are going to hold their value much better long term so you won't be losing much on that 15-20k investment, when you are ready to sell.

I would check the engine no. first. If it's revised version with the new heads and other goodies then there is no difference between 2015 and 2016. So no reason to overpay. I think it was F03050 number when they revised heads.

Thanks.
No the 2015 is a serial before the big updates. This is a car I plan to track so it really comes down to the hassle factor.

The 2016 I found is a nice car but in truth I prefer the 2015 just based on its color and mileage.

I'll figure it out

Then if you plan to track the car I would go 2015 and track it really hard so you get the updates for free while you are covered.
Otherwise I would go 2016 to have the peace of mind.

Get the cheaper one which you prefer anyway. Get the extended warranty. You are only using it for 2 yrs anyway and the warranty would be a big selling point.

PM me.

I have a 2015 991.1 GT3 that you may have some interest in considering.

If you're fairly sure you're going to flip it in 18 months as you say, you want to buy the cheapest possible GT3. The best bet is the lowest starting price to combat depreciation in the short term.

FWIW - I paid $122K for my 2014 and traded it for $110K. Porsche of Nashville flipped it same day for $120K. Shortly before I bought mine I stupidly passed on a CPO 2015 at Porsche of Nashville where they were asking $125K. (They sold that car in about 8 hours so they probably underpriced it).

Considering you will be a short term owner buy the depreciated car which is the same exact car why pay more? Second, you can pay more for a 2016 that has less depreciation in the car ...best believe you will be the one to feel it on the trade. As long as you have warrantee you're covered, and it's the same car. The only reason they pushed a 2016 model was because of the engine debacle.

Maybe not the sharpest pencil in the box, but I went with a 2016 and CPO to 11/22 ( next guy gets lots of warranty time) . Net price diff was $12K. In the end the 2015 is the better "deal" but I wanted the least likelihood of having to go through the back and fourth with Porsche on fixing an issue. My understanding is there are still multiple steps to go through before you'd get the full top end update and at least a month without the car. Admittedly - thats just silly thinking as the likelihood of an issue with the 2015 is very very low.

I pick it up Wednesday and at that point I no longer care about value. I'm gonna drive it and when I get my shot at a .2 gT3 my '16 will be worth whatever its worth.

Thanks Guys !
