991.2GT3; Track It vs. Street Driving
I know there's been several polls about manual vs. pdk for the new GT3, but I haven't read anything about how many buyers intend to predominately track it vs. using it mostly for street driving regardless of the trans.
Sorry if I'm blaspheming in asking this, but I'd really like to know. At the NY Auto Show the question of tracking vs. street seemed to be a constant back ground discussion.
From my reading it seems like tracking has been, and will be, it's primary use. But for myself, I'm a street guy. I tried track and didn't care for it. I drive because I love driving, fast or slow, and a GT car represents, for me, the ultimate driver's car.
My only drag with the manual will be the constant stop and go NYC traffic and the 10million potholes which I'll avoid by using my wife's Macan. I also work from home so I won't have to worry about the daily drive.

I'm not getting one so it won't matter but for "pure enjoyment" I find vintage cars to be most enjoyable.
You are of course allowed to drive whatever you can afford however you want it.
I love driving newer porsches on track.
My 3 best uses for my new porsches over the years:
911R: only long road trips. 200+ miles at a time. Currently at 1500 miles.
08 RS: drove straight through from miami to dallas. Took to hill country rally 2 days later. Took to track 2 days after that. First week: 2500 miles.
08 GT3: euro delivery. Hit about 6 countries, did a track day. 3800 miles. Sold while on boat to get the RS.
11RS: amazing car- but didn't have time to drive it. For commuting i felt my CGT was more fun. Sold to a friend. Then bought it back.

In most places around the globe it's becoming harder and harder to enjoy these performance cars on the road. (Without acting completely stupid.)
Not that many years ago the performance of a modern gt car would be in the supercar category.
I can still see why people want a modern car instead of for an example air cooled Porsche. Warranty is one.

If you just look at the car itself, Porsche built us a "street-legal" race car. It gets 20 mpg, goes 200 mph, is reasonable comfortable to drive long distances, yet is a complete track weapon. It has a big *** wing, yet comes with leather, a/c, stereo, and cruise control.
It's built to be dual purpose, but it is more street car than track car imo. So i drive it that way. Predominately on the street, with occasional track use.

I was always of the belief that the GT3 was a street car that you could drive on the track and the RS was a track focused car you could drive on the street.

Exactly- That is why i am getting one and using it for spirited street driving. It is my money and I can do what I want with it. That is how I reward Myself for my hard work and helps me decompress on weekends. Nothing better than being behind a race car enjoying the glorious roads and the rush it delivers

If one insists of getting the GT3 there at least should be an ambiton to try to track at least once, the car deserves it.
