Does ECU Data Show Number of Times 9k RPMs hit?

I know that your point is, "it doesn't matter if it hits the limiter," and with that I wholeheartedly agree. I just had my Boxster checked out a couple weeks ago...in 139k miles it's had 1 (one) Range 2 over-rev--not bad. But how many times has it hit the limiter? 28,331 times

That is a pretty 997.2 GT3.

"Sadly", they are out there. I had a DME report done on this 997.2 GT3 and it reported exactly 0 in every range.

How do we go about getting this information? Is there a recommended OBD2 tool or reader that would show this?

Attached is a picture from my 2010 Carrera 4S which at that time (Oct 2014) had spent ~50% of its life at the track. A few "over revs" as defined by the ECU but nothing serious - quite a few range 1 ignitions though. BTW still likes the track and runs well for its age ... and I do try to minimize the bouncing off the rev limiter ...

The last 991 GT3 I had a PPI done on showed 970 Range 1 Ignitions. I showed it to my SA ( not where the PPI was done or car was being sold) and he said that was absolutely no issue and happy to see a GT3 driven the way it should be.

If you have a friend or know someone with a Durametric they can do it for you (pro version best since it has unlimited vin's). May be other tools by now. Also dealer can but sometimes they will charge you if you are not doing other work.

Thanks! So 970 equates to what?

It means there were ignitions logged within a certain rpm range.
Each engine has different parameters and I don't have 991 GT3 or RS figures handy but I do have 997's (see link below)-
For a 997 Carrera, rpm in
range 1 -> between 7300-7500
range 2 -> between 7500 - 7700
range 3 -> between 7700 - 7900
etc.
For 997 GT3
range 1 -> between 9000 - 9200
range 2 -> between 9200 - 9400
range 3 -> between 9400 - 9600
etc.
There have been pages upon pages of this topic discussed in the 997 and 991 boards due to the PPI, CPO, and PDK questions - search it and you can spend days reading it all . Also a number of people often quote this link as a good source of info - you can decide if you think it is good or not. http://www.911virgin.com/porsche/rev-range-information/ .
