Default Sports Bucket Seats vs Full 918 Buckets

Guys any preferences between the two, 918 buckets look wider but don't fold ? Especially interested for those with long legs ?

The advantage of the 918 seats is that they're height adjustable. Folding buckets sit high and cannot be lowered. But if you have long legs and short torso, folding might be best choice for you (certainly makes area behind seats more useable)...

No access to rear area is a bummer with LWB.

I have both seats- the sport bucket (GT2) in Cayman R and the full bucket seats in a GT4. I like both and find them comfortable. on stock brackets/sliders the sport buckets are pretty high as noted above. I got lowering brackets from Cantrell which also allowed some tilt which helped with helmet/hans. I find the sport buckets a little more snug and better on track. The full buckets better for a road trip. In a Cayman the folding feature matters little but would be more convenient in a 911. I'm 6' , long legs and 180lb.

997 gt2 buckets hold me more snug

991/918 buckets have a slightly deeper well but are cut for a wider trunk/torso, i find myself moving around more on track in these

either way, for serious tracking neither of these are ideal for those of average or leaner builds imo, one needs real race seats like sparco or recaros

I have the LWB but have used the folders as well. Tall with long legs and I like both. The folders are a little more snug for me, so as noted above better for track. Wish we had the choice here, but the LWB are great. Did over 3,000 miles in them in 8 days, including a lot of track time, and was very comfortable.

Given the choice I would go with GT2 sport buckets; they seem designed for a GT3, with a slightly more sporting fit and providing access to the rear. And I think they look better. The 918 buckets feel like they belong in that car rather than a GT3; designed to accommodate the fatter wallets of 918 buyers and no need for rear access in that car.

Tested them and wrote some words about those about 5-6 weeks ago, I'll repeat here as it is still applicable:

-------------------------------
Well, I sat in both the folding buckets seats (FBS) and the full light weight bucket seats (FLWBS) yesterday. Both can be had in combo with clubsport pack, so both are ok with 6pt harnass and cage.

Yes the FLWBS can go up and down, but in NO way are the FBS too high for track driving. Furthermore, I have a feeling there is more room between your head and the headrest with the FBS, so they will be more suitable to drive with helmet and hans. I feel the FLWBS are more loose fitting in the leg and hip department and then pinch your shoulders more, combined with the lesser rake it gave me a slight hunchback of the notre dame feeling. Whereas the FBS really grip your legs and hips, yet allow some more room in the shoulder area which for me seemed to net a tighter yet more comfortable seat.
When I weigh all the pros and cons the FBS are the right seat for me.

Analogy, FLWBS, me in a plastic tube, FBS me in a plastic tube shrunkwrapped around me

To me irrelevant, but still noteworthy, the FLWBS are "very difficult" to climb in and out of, the FBS less so, the are just "difficult" to climb in and out of.

For reference, I'm about 6ft and 175lbs.

YMMV

I'm 6-5.

The 918 work because you can lower them.

The gt2 seat don't really work for street driving let alone helmet.

Porsche needs a way to recline these.

So how easily do the 918 seats move forward and adjust. I quite love my 2 ways in my GT4 but am considering the 918 buckets next time around but to make the back storage area might not be idea for me since my car sees 5 or 6 track days a year at most.

Try them both if you can. It's an individual thing.
For me the sport bucket seats (GT2) are not as comfortable as the full bucket seats (918).

Although in a 911, the folding seats would be a big plus. As mentioned above, neither is a great track seat, but both are better than the standard sport seats.

For me, they are both no problem getting in and out of. I guess I'm used to the technique. If you think they are hard, get in a Lotus or McLaren, or 918!

I guess if I get an RS I will take the roll cage out as dont plan to track the car and so folding Carbons are the better choice for rear access

It seems Porsche has been evolving its seats and catering to larger drivers over subsequent generations. The Euro 996 GT3 buckets fit my skinny bod the best. I found the 997 GT2 buckets noticeably wider and the 918 buckets wider still.

I had the 2-ways in my GT4 and the adjustability of the LWB is basically identical but easier to perform because of the power up/down.
