One thing that might be nice to note is number of trouble free miles to date by some. I now have 22K and no problems yet. I don't track and hit 9K only some times as I usually short shift at 5 to 6K.
I do have a favorite driving spot with a lot of turns and often run at 6K up for about half an hour and often shift at 8.

Burning Brakes
19,400 miles; 6600 on track. No major issues with '14 E series engine. Replaced thermostat @ 7700 miles.

Without removing the cylinder head you can't know.
The whole point about this big fuzz is the uncertainty between wear and CEL. We know that you need very high rpms to trigger the CEL, but very little information is available as to whether the wear needs very high rpms or not.
