Comparing 991.2 GT3 with prior R/RS models shows .2 superior?

And under all this is, of course, the engine. ItÂ’s a 4.0-litre rather than a 3.8, and it now makes 493bhp (a round 500hp), but donÂ’t think itÂ’s just the 4.0 GT3 RS or 911 R engine bolted into a GT3. If anything, itÂ’s all but identical to the latest 911 Cup carÂ’s engine (see separate story, p28). There is a different crankshaft, with bigger seals, itÂ’s stiffer and it has oil channelling through it. There are new pistons, with different liners and an ever more slippery coating on them. And, reputedly most significant, there are no longer hydraulic valve adjusters inside a new head design, which reduces the oil pressure you need to lubricate them. Apparently, new materials used mean that the valves wonÂ’t go out of adjustment even if you run one on a dyno, as Porsche has, for 200,000 miles, so they say.

With that,I think we all know the geek tech specs AP presented to us. As a matter of fact,we all knew them the day the new GT3 was launched in Geneva. What's the point? AP and PAG have said some things in the past...it didn't always worked out...that's all we're saying... Let's see those 186.000 miles(to be exact) of valve free adjustments!

I never thought Grant seems to be the type getting " worked up ".

Hopefully, Porsche has a sensor or some way to know if the valve lash gets out of spec without having to physically inspect the heads. Not sure if this is possible, but would be great for peace of mind...

Last year, there was a 997 gt2 clubsport decent condition (some maintenance needed) for 139k, it was there for almost 2 years, there was 2 997.2 GT3 RS, one from getspeed, another from an Adenau stand, both around 129-137, they were there for ages, first disappeared around November, the Adenau one this trimester, other gt2's at higher prices points gone too, clubsports mostly, non clubsports, even at low prices, (127k-130k) are listed since I tried to watch the market.
My point is, this year, the market is much more active than last year, mostly for good priced cars, if the car credit schemes don't blow up, another wave of speculation might be at the door ala 2013-15

Guys the latest model GT3 will always show improvements to the prior RS. All are great cars all depends pn what you want ......this was the same argument when the .1 was born vs. the below. Go drive your cars and enjoy .....got to go fire up the RS been on the road for a week nice to come open the garage and see Mr. Purple

Hopefully my outdated RS is put on a truck today for Monday/Tues delivery. Go and enjoy that beautiful purple people eater today while I have to wait one last weekend without mine

Was tempted to have dealer throw in a Ford Focus for good measure, but transport didn't have room.

Not that I would feel thrilled about having my motor opened and messed with. And if the valve adjusts end up being required way more often than advertised (as is the case with every other car using solid lifters), then it implies some risks to the motor by driving it with valves too loose (and particularly too tight).
It's counter-intuitive, but pre-993 911's have their tolerance tighten over time more frequently than loosen and this can cause serious problems if driven that way too long (and no obvious ticking sound which is common with loose valves)...

I'd be very interested in seeing pictures of the .2's valve train, I'm assuming they control the 186K mile adjustment free period with tight manufacturing tolerances and essentially wear free components.
From the brochure;
High-revving concept.
The valves are operated by cam followers – a principle derived from motorsport. Clearance compensation between the camshafts and valves of the new 911 GT3 is realised not by hydraulic means, but by shim plates as part of a solid arrangement. This kind of valve timing design provides greater robustness and enables remarkably high engine speeds even under hard use.

Here is the funny part...
I don't think there is one person in this thread that is even capable of pushing the .1 GT3 to the cars limitations, so saying you are going to pay a lot more money for another car that might be a little bit better is the part that makes me chuckle.
Also RS has bigger tires, more down force, allows front wheels to cool off better with the vents up front, better trans, better seamless shifting so IMO will still be a better car then the .2 GT3.. Did I also mention better looking?
