PDK or Manual - Allocation Decision
#46
That's simply not true. More like 99% of the people out there couldn't be remotely as fast with the manual as they can with the PDK, particularly when the going gets curvy and a lot of repeated downshifting is involved. It takes an exceptional driver to even get close the performance of the PDK.

I'm just the opposite. I enjoy a manual the most in typical daily driving, including in traffic, though a lot of stop and go everyday would suck. But then again, I'd never tolerate that type of a daily drive anyway, so moot point. The only place where I think the PDK shines and I would say I actually prefer it, is when I'm really driving hard in the hills.
I will never get rid of a MT as long as my left leg holds out

That is not the point though. This GT3 has 500hp and exceptional handling. Even if the MT is slower, your butt will feel as fast as in it as in the PDK, but with the extra fun. You cannot get the same experience in a Mazda miata. In addition, who really cares about lap times, except keeping track of their own improvement? I think skill is what determines how quick you are, not MT vs PDK.

BTW...no one answered by config. questions
I am not a track guy. I bought my first 911 in 2006 as my daily driver. It is a MT. For first five years or so I was driving it like a normal manual car. I accidentally discovered driving at higher revs. It is truly an out of this world experience. Controlling a Porsche high rev. engine with MT is like driving a motor bike. I seriously do not think the analog experience of driving a MT at high revs. can be replaced by a PDK.
I am completely bummed that I cannot get a MT GT3. I am hoping for a surprise!

A lot of people are scared of 5-2 money shifting the very expensive motor (well, for me it will be!)... if the 1-4 ratios are the same as the PDK, you'd have to be traveling more than 77mph to money shift in 2nd. Around town, and reasonable highway driving, it simply isn't a major worry.
Now to keep driving reasonable!

Let's keep in mind that Porsche didn't have to bring the manual back to the GT3. If they didn't, everyone here that prefers a manual would STILL buy the 991.2 GT3/RS with a PDK and still enjoy every single moment spent driving the car. FACT!

Apparently over on the Nissan forums there's heavy pecker measuring according to whom drives a manual or not.
