Is PTS worth it for .2 GT3?...
approved not one, but two, 'Slate Grey' hues for PTS in
the 991/981/718 models. Both are solid/uni colors. One
is the late 356/early 911 vintage color (6601) with color
code - 615. The other is Y97. The only 'Slate' I have
reported that is not currently approve is the Metallic
version that PAG used to offer as metallic option for
some years in 997 model. That is old color code '23F'.
Just to clarify what I'm asking...many people here
seem to think that getting a PTS slot is like getting
a gift from the gods, or hitting the lotto, so that
makes me wonder if it's worth it. What I mean by
that is if it is in fact true that PTS cars sell for a
premium, then why wouldn't I take it? Even if I'm
ok with GR / GT Silver personally, if someone is
giving you free money, of course you should take
it. That's a no brainer.
The question is if that's actually true. Is there any
empirical market evidence to support the claim
that PTS cars sell for a premium, or it is all just
speculation and hype?

The answer to your question is that a desirable & well
regarded PTS color on a Porsche model with high demand
(e.g. gt3, gt3 RS, 911R, gt4, 981 Spyder) has in the past,
& will likely continue in the future, merited a $ premium
in the secondary re-sale market. The key here is opting
for a highly 'desirable & well regarded' PTS color. Not
all PTS colors are equal...nor well regarded & desirable!
You can easily find 'market evidence' of what I have just
written above by taking a cursory look into Classifieds here
at Rennlist & reading related threads on the subject via
the 'Search' function. But don't take my word for it, do
your own research!
The thing that troubles me going forward is that starting
with the .2 991 gt3 & all future gt models (or near gt like
the upcoming 718 Spyder), Porsche dealers might hold back
their PTS allocations for those desirable models & sell them
to highest bidder. So they will make you pay a premium for
their PTS allocation in the first place or they will simply spec
themselves the order with a PTS color they think will be
popular & then sell it at a premium when it arrives in inventory.
This is the dangerous trend I see happening. Let's hope PCNA
& PAG doesn't let them get away with it...but I am not hopeful
that they will put a stop to it. Time will tell.

How is it free if you pay $7000 for PTS? Seems silly to roll the dice on PTS for the sake of higher resale value rather than for a unique color you personally have your heart set on IMHO.
Just to clarify what I'm asking, I personally don't have any PTS colors that I would truly kill for. Sure there are some great colors, but it doesn't make enough of a difference for me personally over the standard colors to justify 7k. I get the most enjoyment from driving the car, not from being the only X color at the local C&C meet -- that doesn't do anything for me.

were lucky enough to know about the program, and have a savvy BA/SA
and you actually *got* a slot ... you did indeed feel blessed and/or
exceedingly lucky!
I think its a lot less to do with "resale" than "desire" ... while some people
have expressed the POV that they would not pay extra for a PTS car, or
one in a particular shade, I personally would *never* buy a 911 (GT) off
the lot, or order one, in anything other than a standout color, IMO, if you
buy a silver/white/black/brown/red car you might as well buy a BMW...
The GT cars "deserve" to be in a skittle color - that's why Porsche originally
painted their cars such back in the good old days - so people would see
them coming ... and going...
oh now I've gone and done it!

perhaps I missed it, but when exactly is this PTS car being built? It would help those of us with tentative build dates understand if we perhaps have a snowballs chance in hell. My Voodoo dreams are ready to be crushed!

"Free money" as in a premium to option cost. If for instance the option is 7k, but adds 10k at resale, but I doubt that's the case.

I was fortunate to have "HAD" a GT3 PTS Viper green. My experience, patience and luck was required to attain the PTS allocation. I sold to a Porsche dealer. Part of the condition written on the bill of sale was a future allocation for 991.2 manual at MSRP.
The dealer paid me over msrp and they made an additional 35K over. PTS paid dividends in my case.
The reason I did it was to have a manual gt3. Now I am going to push for PTS. I doubt I will be so lucky this time for PTS.
