Purely subjective, but every Porsche I've owned that has LEDs has been much brighter and provided better vision at night vs Xenons. it may be placebo or psychological since they are so expensive, perhaps I'm brain washing myself to jjustify the cost.

So, should the LED option be spec'd on the 991.2 GT3?

I can buy 400 double Whataburger meals with $3k, so it's worth a lot to me.

My LEDs on the GT3 have been awesome. Way brighter than the no dazzle LEDs on my F80 M3 (I have them coded to EU spec, so watching them move around and high beam are awesome, but the illumination from the Porsche LEDs are much better still).

Problem is, I like pretty lights. I'm the guy that goes all over the house inside and out to swap out all the lights to nice LED bulbs and I'm a sucker for nice car lights. I guess I'll check them both at the dealer before locking my spec.

How did you code your Porsche LEDs to EU spec? This has been brought up a dozen times on this forum, but no one has successfully recoded their Porsche LEDs, or been able explain how they did it.

I believe the coding that @nlpamg is referring to is for his F80 M3, which is easy to code since as it's a BMW.

I believe you should be able to code it with the new Panamera “matrix” headlight and others in the Porsche snail it that follow suite

I think you are right. Totally different story compared to BMW which is easy to recode.

I hope, but no one has yet reported doing so successfully here on rennlist, the most active Porsche GT car forum in the world.

I am getting the Bi-xenons. I think they are fine, and I don't like running daytime running lights in sunny California anyway.

In the US at least, LEDs are better in low beam, but HIDs better in high beam. And since HIDs are aesthetically better for me, and I hardly drive at night, will continue getting HIDs if given the choice. But once the US gets (if ever) the same EU LEDs, then it'd be a harder choice. And hopefully a cheaper one as well. They're just not worth any extra charge for me, let alone what they cost right now. But to each his own.

I could be mistaken, but the new Xenon's have the quad daytime running lights built in now (unlike 991.1). I actually like the newer style better, even though they were previously used by Cayenne's/Panamera's, albeit a slight refresh.

According to the video that started this thread, on low beans, HIDs avg 1100 lux while LEDs avg 1600 lux. On high beans, HIDs avg 3800 lux while LEDs avg 3600 lux. Seems like a clear win for LEDs to me.
