Putting film on windshield.

I just had mine done. No air leaks or other stuff, well except a scratch on my roof the dealer is addressing.

I had Clearplex installed about 2.5 years ago and it has saved my windshield a few times. I took a fairly large direct hit to the windshield last year and it left a nice mark on the film but nothing on the glass.
Like others I have had multiple issues over the years with windshield installs including scratched paint and incorrectly installed trim which required multiple visits to rectify.

I've done clearplex twice on my car. The problem is it shows the pits worse then actual glass. Also it didn't completely keep my windshield safe from pits. I think you might be better just doing a glass replace every 1.5-2 years.

I use windshield films, Clearplex, not so much for chip or fracture protection but to prevent the thousands of micro chips that only become visible driving into setting west sun or nocturnal headlights. I've replaced several windshields that appeared fine until the light hit them at an angle then extremely annoying.

Clearplex is a wear and tear item, it should not be looked at as bulletproof insurance that your windshield will never sustain damage after installation. It'll prevent 95% of the damage your windshield would see without it, just plan to replace it every 12-24 months of heavy use.

Don't know anything about clearplex but I have the local NASCAR shop apply four layers of tear-off film (without the quick pull tabs) and rocks rarely make it past one layer and never all the way to the windshield. I generally pull one layer off every year and replace when I am down to two layers. Best $185 I have spent. No issues with polarized lenses. Clarity is not quite the same as bare glass but its pretty close. Agree the installer is important.

You should consider calling up a reputable Paint Protection Film place, they usually deal with windshield skins as well.

Someone posted about this website, I saved the link: http://www.braygroup.com/3d-windshie...-of-porsche-gt I have not ordered it, so no idea of the quality.

Must do something because these must be the softest, most easily destructible windshields on the planet. Pitting is unavoidable. Will try something soon and report back.
