Other sports car companies are now wanting to get in on the "luxury SUV with a sportscar badge" gravytrain.
Lambo and Maserati are preparing SUVs as we speak.
Only Ferrari and Mclaren have declared they will never ever build an SUV. Of course that's easy to do when they're selling their sports cars for an average of $300,000, an average profit of $90,000 per vehicle sold.

Thing is, Porsche is still racing, Porsche is still winning races. As long as they keep doing that and keep developping great GT cars I'm not complaining.

I'm glad we have the Cayennes, Macans and Panameras:
If we didn't our dealers would have difficult surviving because of our winters and I would have no chance of getting a GT car.

It is difficult to deny that Porsche is not viewed as esoteric as it was prior to the introduction of SUVs. In any major city, Porsches, whether a Cayenne, Macan or 911 is fairly commonplace. As a car enthusiast, in and of itself, this means little. If you enjoy owning and driving a 911, all of this is irrelevant. If the goal is to impress others, then a Ferrari, Lambo, or Maclaren would be a better choice.

Neither McLaren or Ferrari build a SUV or a naturally aspirated sports car. Don't all the cars in the range help Porsche meet EPA standards as a brand?
I own a Cayenne TTS and no other SUV drives better and faster. I've put 52k miles in just over three year and I've driven it cross country and back and fourth through the tail of the dragon a hand full of times.
What do you anti Porsche SUV people drive? RAV4?

The issue is not what market segment Porsche competes in, rather the design and performance of those products in which it competes.
BMW design and performance has evolved to seek a different buyer and greater sales. It's worked (greater sales) but its a fine line to seek those additional sales while still offering products which are desirable to the core brand followers.

Have not driven a Panamera but everything else and find they are leaders in every field they build in.
Have yet to drive any other I would prefer over a Porsche. My wife has a new Range Rover and loves it. Nice car and very comfortable and quiet but if I'm driving I would prefer one of the Porsche's SUVs.

The new C8 is proving that we are overpaying and reading too much into these cars
