Assuming no 991.2 GT3RS, do you buy a 991.1 GT3RS or the 991.2 GT3?

Whichever one you can get your hands on (i.e, buy at a price you are comfortable with).
Find car. Buy and drive.
Really. It's just that simple.
To paraphrase Occam, don't overthink things.

My wallet will be happy if there is no .2GT3RS and GT4/RS. But my brain is saying Porsche will build both and somehow take my money.

Again my sources (which admittedly were wrong with 3.8 vs 4.0) said no RS.2 again today.

Porsche has proven again and again that they will always make another model that's better than the one before it. Maybe not in every way better or maybe even not on the first try, but eventually there will be a better car. So no reason to obsess and be afraid to miss out too much.

Boy, those guys that dumped the 7.1 and 7.2 RS for the succeeding faster and "better" GT3s sure were smart!

You can bet against Porsche, but they have only got things wrong a very few times in their history, the last gt3 being one of them. I think it would be very smart to bet and assume that the 991.2 gt3 will be better than the 997.1 and 997.2 rs, like they themselves were better than the 996 generation models.

Agree on all points. The RS looks too over the top for me, particularly as I daily my GT3 half of the week. The GT3 has exotic elements but still looks like a 911, and I can park it in my office parking lot.
Agree that with the .2 GT3 we will get the best of both worlds, as the .1RS and any .2 RS would have the same 339 torque as the .2 GT3, as all 4.0L Porsche street engines have had 339 ft-lbs since the original RS 4.0, and a little more hp doesn't matter that much if the torque is unchanged, so there is even less of a reason for me to desire an RS.
That plus I get to keep the 9K engine note, a more subtle looking car, have the manual option, and yes save 50K, but the $ doesn't make the decision for me.
The .2 GT3 hits all the major notes for me, and I don't think there will be any NA GT car to truly lust over for quite a while after the .2 GT3 (for me at least), so I expect to keep my .2 GT3 for 8 years or more, which will be a first for me with any car.

RS will always be an RS. 😉
