CJ,
Do you own old cars? I would drive a cup on the road (not that I have driven one to know). Can’t be any worse than a 49 Jag or 62 Ferrari (or a late model Exige lol). What do you mean temperamental?
Any more word on whether a 6MT is in the works? That is the only thing that would interest me in upgrading to the RS. Honestly, I still don’t think I would do it because I love the look of the touring, although my dream Porsche is a 997 RS frog (got to the dealer too late to get one and like an idiot turned down a 4.0 because I was poor enough to think the cost bump was material and thought the graphics looked stupid) if a manual was available in the 991.2 RS I might bite on a PTS green.

I've owned one, and CJ is LONG right. No way in HELL would I drive that thing on a regular road with much of any joy. The thing wants to be full throttle or full brake, doesn't hold revs consistently for **** when you're trying to take off in the pits (fine for the 6 minutes you're in the pits lined up, MISERABLE on a road), and the suspension is so hard, you'd probably lose multiple teeth if you hit even a minor pot hole. Plus, it would be no fun unless you lived where you had multiple miles of nearly closed off roads where you could give it the beans.

Just wanted to share with you my amazing experience with Porsche of Fremont, CA.
Been working with them for 3 years and between sales, service and finance, they are just good.
Got a confirmation today by the GM that I am getting a build slot for a 991.2 GT3RS at MSRP in spring/summer 2018...PTS baby.
It was a chat after I received the confirmation in writing a few months ago. Yes I paid ADM for my gt4 and gt3 but the plan was to move up the food chain.
So excited to get my spec on the gt3rs at sticker!

I'm a big fan of 991RS...keep on tracking my one and always surprised by how capable is on track (and comfy on the road at the same time); think the car needs just "minor" upgrades to be really perfect ...assuming a huge HP gain is not feasable in the current (and future) flat 6 NA world
30/40kilos less, 30/40 ponies more, more detailed steering, better 4WS action, and some more aero especially in the front (but this should be provided by the new bumper..speaking with some Cup drivers) would make a really great car, looking forward it...and hoping to get one!
Would be nice a PDK-S based on the new 8 speed which also seems to be lighter than the current one...but I don't think Porsche is willing to do that.
Going slightly OT...I say I'm not a fan of the current HP escalation driven by turbos, I think they add not much to the driving experience (apart the thrilling acceleration) but add more stress to brakes and tyres (the weak link in such an hyper-engineering of track oriented cars) taking off consistency along several lap times. The first time I tracked RS was a bit disappointed by the engine, actually I do believe that the car (with such a right ratioed gearbox) is a perfect package to go flat out and enjoy for an entire lap (along several laps) in terms of agility, late braking, number of upshifts etc..

on the front aero, I think I solved it with more rake, lowering the nose but not the rear.
you need 19” wheels to make it work without rubbing. Car is very neutral now.
im at max wing, max bar front and rear and it seems to work.
turbos will be faster, but for now I like turbo cars just for on the street and the 4.0 can still give fight to all other street / track cars..

- PFC Cup or similar brakes that don't require removal of calipers and potential striping every time you want to change a set of pads.
- 5-lugs or CL's that are air-gun compatible and don't require a monkey circus to change.
- track focused gearing for better drive off corners
- sub-3,000lb wet weight. it ain't that hard.
- proper de-contented RS interior. if I want a Panamera interior I'll buy a Panemera or one of the 20 other 911's with it. how about just a simple MOTEC dash and switch panel?
- DOT track-tire compatible wheels and suspension.
- factory installed rollbar mounting plates. time to tell the lawyers to man up and start providing proper protection for their track focused cars and customers.
- ideally cockpit adjustable ABS and sway bars.
- multiple seat widths. because one size does not fit all and it matters on track.
- stiffer springs - current RS suspension is too soft. At least this looks likely given the GT2 RS....
McLaren is moving the game forward. Time for Porsche to pick up the pace.
