Someone here said its better to go safe in a macan or something with children, this thing is for tracking and inspired driving. If im wrong please correct me!
Touring package is in europe no new term for the gt3, it has always meant sofas without cage. Different story in us where as i understand you can't have cage from factory. Sorry if i ruined you guys hope.
This is not correct. A specific Touring package is coming...and its not just a term that applies to sofas in Europe...as a precedent, think 964 RS Lightweight vs Touring....completely different packages....GT3 touring package not be available until manual box arrives. However, my info is still blank as to whether it will include back seats. Opinion is no...but we will see.

The 991.1 3 was more street friendly than previous and this one also seems to be getting even closer with things like BOSE, Sirius XM all required etc. I doubt they will give a backseat option but also wish they would. Their do everything car in the TTs is higher margin than the 3 so it would canabalize those sales. I've normally always owned a 2+2 911 to go with my GT cars to keep the wife happy.

Seems like an increasing number of people who want a GT3 that is not a GT3.

I can see it now, if they make a GT3 with back seats, they'll sell more than the plain Jane 911's.

And that's probably why it won't have back seats...but it will be limited by production anyway.

Interestingly, you can do a seat delete on the regular 991. A GTS with a manual gearbox and seat delete is supposed to be a weapon and the best drivers car of the range outside of the GT3. But hardly anybody ticks this box.

Historically, if you go back and look at the 964 RS, the vast majority of people chose the Lightweight over the Touring to the extent that they ended up only makinh a few hundred largely because people who buy a car like this go for the more extreme version, not the softer version. The same will happen with the GT3.

Will it be a different model or an options package? The reason I ask is if it's a different model I could put a deposit on it.

One can hope that if they offer a touring package with rear seats, perhaps they'll include some folding buckets to access those seats and not just sofas.

To the best of my knowledge, it will not be a separate model, just an options package....and I have already secured a January 2018 allocation for one...conditional on what the final package contains.

gt3 starting with 991 is as much a status symbol to new buyers as it is a drivers/trackers car

i would guess gt3's in future will come with self drive/self park option, back seats, espresso dispenser

as for this 1.2 gen package, i believe the half cage package was offered in europe in the past, but due to legal issues etc it isn't offered in usa

Can't wait to see what the details of this package will include. I can't imagine that wing delete will be included, but I can see Porsche including rear-seats or other creature comforts.

Also interested in how outrageous the price will be...

^Purpose? Track Taxi?
Why have back seats in a weekend warrior, track & back road attack focused car?

Honestly, I think it's because of money. I agree, the GT3 is a weekend warrior in my books but given the huge uptick in interest with the .1 GT3 going "automatic" ... can you imagine the dollar signs Porsche is seeing with the inclusion of rear seats and maybe even a wing delete? (i.e. "baby R")

Suddenly people will say "For only $20k more than a GTS, I can have THIS."

The reason people want this gt3 is the 500hp NA engine and manual gearbox - minus the wing (the wing gets far too much attention in the city, and I hate the haters).

Majority of Porsche drivers just want a car like R and Porsche just needs to satisfy that demand.

To me the new gt3 is the "baby R",

I hear you, although IMO it would be diluting the badge.. I would think that the GTS serves this purpose... But I'm no expert.
