My son is new to iRacing and just downloaded the Cup Car, being new to the platform how do you adjust the braking on that particular car? He mentioned that the brakes were difficult to setup just right.
What time do you race on Weds?

Thx!

The braking is tricky on the Cup car as it doesn't have ABS. I adjust the brake bias a few clicks more rear bias (46%) which helps prevent some lock ups and shorten braking distances. The downside to that is slightly less stability under braking.

Also another thing to consider is which foot your son is using for braking. It helped me when i switched back to right foot braking (I had been left foot braking for years in the sim). I guess i have slightly more sensitivity with my right foot. It shouldn't be a huge difference either way.

Once you get some mileage with the Cup car its really tons of fun to drive/race.

We race @ 8 pm EST. There is also a practice session on Sunday I think around 7 pm. Check out the Rennlist iRacing thread over in the racing/DE section of the forum. Here is a link

Awesome Seth. Please send Jim (OmniGLH) or JustinL a message to add you to the league. Their info can be found in the link above in the racing section of the forum.

Yes i highly recommend it. A decent setup could probably be had for around $3k to $4k. Endless track time and great racing.

So is a PC rig with this MUCH, MUCH better than an Xbox and Forza? I know it's more realistic, but I'm most interested in learning some tracks and having fun with my 6 year old son.

Yes I absolutely believe so. I don't think you can really compare the two.

I would say, "Yes!!" but there are still some pros and cons to each.

I don't know how well your son drives (he could be a kickass go-karter for all I know), but Forza is probably more fun for kids and casual players. You can play it on your couch with a regular controller, the physics are forgiving, and there's a rewind feature.

On the other hand, iRacing is really hardcore; the physics are as realistic as possible (and constantly updated). I used to race the "Skippy" (Skip Barber open wheeler) and it was just as intense as real racing. They use what they call iRating to judge your skill level, so you end up with really close racing. You get penalized for touching other cars, spinning out, or even just putting four wheels off the track.

iRacing is basically as close to real racing as you can get without actually driving a car. Forza is just a fun video game. They're both great, but provide completely different experiences. In a perfect world, you'd want to have both

Stujelly - If i were starting from scratch I would get the following hardware.

Chassis with Monitor stand
HE - Sim GT Rig ($1,000) - http://www.h-engineering.net/

Triple monitors 27" 144hz
~ $750 (for all 3)

Steering
OSW from Tomo - ~ $1,100 - https://www.simracingbay.com/

Wheel with buttons/shifters
Sam Maxwell ~ $500 - http://www.sammaxwellcustoms.com/gallery.php

Pedals
HE Pro sim pedals ~$600 - http://www.h-engineering.net/shop/

PC - Main performance PC - $1,000 - https://www.mainperformancepc.com/

You would have a very nice setup that would last for many years. In fact I think the only thing you would need to upgrade would probably be the PC eventually but not for probably at least 5 years.
